Fare is Fair October 20, 2010

Although it was a beautiful weekend past in Chicago, there was a little tugging on my compass. Something was happening on the East Coast that was setting off all sorts of fiber flares of omg.

So I went diving locally instead, to quench the fire, the envy, the I’manottagonnabethere, sigh…

The reward was great. Greater than I could imagine – and quite poignant in a way only a pack rat can be poignant!

Now, the other thing that was achieved this weekend was that I set up a wireless router for my house. This was accomplished with lots of hits and misses, stops and starts, travels to the deck to breath deeply and settle down. The Geekitude lives here, but sometimes isn’t on call, in quite the way it’s needed.

At the end of the day, I could watch Netflix anywhere at all in this olde house. OOf. Girl with the Dragon Tatoo? Seen it. Knit along to The Wire? Done. Break all the drama up with Russell Brand in NYC? Ok.

But there was one little TV show I’d never paid attention to – and it almost did me in: Hoarders! I’ll spare you the details, but it inspired me more than ever to keep going with my local network clean-up so to speak. I’ve been doing the old “throw/give something away everyday” for awhile now and it’s starting to show results.

Everywhere but my Studio, where for some reason (snort) I can’t seem to winnow anything out at all.

A Stash Is a Stash is a Stash.

Regal. Awesome. Ridiculous.

But it was what gave me terrific peace of mind when I went to quench the envy fires this weekend. *Someone* needed to be reminded of the bounty on hand and cool their jets.

I had to get out the step stool but on the top level of the wall unit, there appeared an innocent little box:

box-1-9951box-2-9951

QUE?

box-3-9951

Who the heck is this and what was I doing when I bought it?

box-4-9951box-5-9951

Ooh la la! This is a sweater kit – something I got long ago at another fiber fest nearer home and it’s been patiently waiting its turn for the runway long enough…

Care to guess what this is? Leave a comment and we’ll random draw the correct answers on Monday, October 25th, to win a skein of Schaefer Yarns ANNE in the Chai Spice color. Win, win, winnow winnow :)

  1. you’ve made it really difficult for us. i’ll take a stab in the dark and say: blue shimmer bohus sweater from solveig gustafsson. nice one!

  2. Bohus knit – Blue Shimmer kit (but the Kimmet Croft (US) version, a little larger gauge than the traditional Bohus. Love it!

  3. Hmmm, being a fairly new knitter, I am going to do a little cheating and rely on the smart people who guessed before me and say a blue shimmer bohus kit. Whatever it is that box of yarn is simply delicious. I love the colors.

  4. It’s a bohus! It’s a bohus! It’s a bohus! Can’t wait to see it when it grows up!…have had the bohus book for forever, but not been bold enough to attempt one…I can live vicariously, though…thanks for the comment contest – love Anne
    Cheers!

  5. Blue Shimmer Bohus sweater! Wow, wish I could find something like that in my stash. All I dig out are wanky yarns that make me wonder what I was smoking/drinking/thinking 10 years ago (or more) when I bought them.

  6. No need to reinvent the wheel. i will guess bohus as well. The colors are lovely and would make a great wintery, shimmery sweater.

  7. Blue Shimmer Bohus sweater or cardi… I want one too, but first have to knit up the Wild Apples I was given for my birthday (Stupid, but I’m too intimidated to even cast on…). Can’t wait ’til you start it!

  8. Of course, it’s the Blue Shimmer Bohus Hat! Personally, I’m not ready for Bohus or Fair Isle; I have achieved a sort of minimal confidence in my ability to knit stripes. But you go ahead and knock yourself out, and I will “knit vicariously” through your efforts.

  9. A beautiful Blue Shimmer Bohus. I’m so jealous. That’s something I’d totally do: buy the kit, look at it, put it away and stumble upon it long enough afterwards that I’d forgotten what it was and be SURPRISED all over again.

  10. It looks like the Blue Shimmer Bohus. Wendy knit one (actually, it was a Bohus, but I don’t remember if it was the Blue Shimmer or not) and I came across her blog entries when I was looking into it a few months ago (when someone else was finishing one up). I haven’t quite bitten the bullet to buy such a kit. I’m afraid I just wouldn’t finish.

  11. It is a Blue Shimmer Sweater. I have the Poems in Color book and want to make one very badly. Knit on!

  12. ooh! I know what it is! My favorite Bohus sweater pattern! Why can’t I have that kind of surprise hiding in the back of my closet!

  13. But, of course, the beautiful Blue Shimmer Bohus sweater! What lovely things you have lurking in your closet!

  14. It is a kit made by Jan of Kimmet Croft fibers for the Bohus Blue Shimmer sweater, from the book by Wendy Keele, Poems of Color.

  15. Are you going to develop a new design and forge into color work? I can imagine how FABULOUS that would turn out!

  16. My research found this yarn is for a sweater from a book called “Poems of Color” called Blue Shimmer. I have yarn from Kimmet Croft Fibers lovely stuff!
