When Nature throws you a curve in the Big Windy, one must just bend and catch it.

First you get unseaonably high temperatures (well for us, that means right around 50-degrees which those of you in warmer cllimes might grin at). We get Spring-Fever-for-a-Day and walk around as much as we can barefoot! Silly. I know.

Emboldened, you put your current crush up on the mannie and see how great it would look a s a short-sleeve model :)

Hmm.

Just a little ribbin’ around the bottom and it’s done? Just a couple of inches on the sleeves and it’s the cat walk?

(I need a Time-Out before I do something dramatic but this sure looks cute as a shortie!)

And it looks like Mother Nature is might help me out. Going from Springlike temps in the 50’s yesterday to what only happens Once Every 25 Years(!) is, well, here in the Midwest, Normal :)

Tom Skilling (my favorite Weather Guy) writes: “…none of this season’s cold spells has arrived more rapidly or on stronger winds than the arctic blast due to send temperatures into a preciptious dive beginning with a cold front’s passage between 3 and 5 p.m. Tuesday…mild upper 40-degree readings…dive…culminating in zero-degree readings by sunrise Wednesday…punishing 50mph winds are expected…

I’m thinking right around 7 p.m. I’m going to be reaching pathetically for whatever heavy long-sleeve sweater is in my range of sight and all that Spring-Talk is going to be gone with the wind…

  1. Ah yes…an Arctic front. We’ve got it sittin’ over us right now — wind chills below -40C (or -40F — at that level, one equals the other, pretty much!). Still, you might think about short sleeves on the cardi — the better to *layer it*, My Pretty, over a smooth turtleneck…

    Stay warm!

  2. Even here in the South (z7) we get the Spring tease this time of year but we all know that February will be COLD. Hopefully we don’t have a surprise freeze in April this year. I lost all my Spring flowers last year. LOVE the cardi!

  3. I really like that cardy as a short sleeved cropped version. I really really like it.

The arctic blast has already hit here in MN. Brrrrr. At least we don’t have snow.

  4. I’d better get a move on to scrape the slush from the drive before it becomes ice again! Oh, and it’s really not pathetic to reach for your wooly hand-knit sweater once that arctic blast hits . . . it’s a mark of your superior skill & talent! I’d only be pathetic if it were a W-M acrylic, store-bought model :o)

  5. Eek, dial back on those plunging necklines, too. I would raise my goosebumps in solidarity, but the coldest it gets here in Shaky City is about 50 degrees. It IS raining, BUT that does not compare.

  6. I hate the temp swings. I find the cold colder when it’s dropped 60 degrees in a day. The sweater is great. I can see the temptation!

  7. I laughed when I saw your post today. I am now about three inches below the arms on my Eyelet Cardi and when I tried it on yesterday morning, I thought it looked cute without the sleeves!

  8. Just saw your Aleita Shell in the Interweave Knits spring preview. Lovely as always. Congratulations!

  9. Tell me about it! Today was wonderful but tomorrow is gonna be BRUTAL. That does look super cute with the short sleeves!

  10. I’m with ya, B. Marie! I was thinking short sleeve yesterday when I started a cardi, but now? Perhaps extra long sleeves and a turtleneck to block the “punishing winds.”

Yikes! Let’s just hope my patio table doesn’t get blown away.

  11. That cardi would be supercute as a cropped one, but in the midst of winter, can you really think about a cropped anything?

  12. It was 50 degrees yesterday and visions of springtime danced in my head; right now it is 7 with a -16 wind chill. The wind is making it sound like there is a banshee in my chimney :)

    Reality.

    Check.

  13. Right now, I evvision a mannie draped in long, wide double worsted blankets ;-) What she’s wearing right now does say “hang in there, spring is coming!”. You know I’m waiting for the pattern ;-)

  14. When I was in college in Chicago, there was a day I set out with some friends for a late lunch about 1.5 miles away. While we were in the restaurant, the temperature plunged and we had to walk home, toward the west and the north, into the teeth of the gale. It was, at that time (around Jan 1982) the coldest day ever in Chicago history. The overnight low was 26 below, with windchills to 76 below. I spent the following summer in Rome Italy, which was the hottest summer in Rome’s recorded history. Just spreading misery where ever I go!

  15. Hi Bonne Marie!

Just wanted to say that I am a long time reader and purchaser of your patterns and I was THRILLED to see you in the Interweave spring preview! I love the ‘vest,’ but am even happier to see designers of your ilk (read: good fashion sense that is practical too) in Interweave. Great job!
