hmm, which side is the *wrong* side?

Even though the world is swimming in beautiful yarn this spring, the 3attaTime Rule is still in effect here at the ChicKnits Workshop….

But what a number 3 it is! I’ve finally started the prototype for a Ribby Shell, to be offered in multiple sizes. This Shell will be the first offspring of the Ribby Family – which eventually will include the Cardi & Pulli…

Since we all need shells for the summer! of course the shell begins the parade.

I am making this prototype from a Vittadini yarn called Teresa – it is a cotton/nylon mixture, almost a ribbon, but actually a tube.

Imagine the tiniest panty-hose leg (that’s the nylon part) filled with soft cotton – it is really incredible stuff.

Teresa will grow into a plain panel front Ribby, because even with that smooth tube there’s a little variation with the cotton which lends a keen texture to the mix.

Next in line is the 2x2x3x1 Ribby Shell, which will be in the same offering – and this will be made from Tahki Cotton Classic.

The gauge on both these shells and other Family friends will be 5sts / 7 rows per inch (20/28 worsted/dk).

AND, what do I like most about this project? But of course – NO SLEEVES!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’ve updated the ChicKnits Website to include a catalog section, where ChicKnits Patterns for sale will now reside.

Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful pattern support! I find it absolutely THRILLING to see your creations around the web and in public – it inspires me to reach way up in the design sky!

take a walk around my block

Ralph Lauren Store, Michigan Ave.

Why is it that Warm Weather and Bright Colors seem to be locked together in a torrid embrace?

For the past few weeks, the skies of Chicago have been drabbly heavy with thunder clouds and constant rain. The bright neon stripes of this tube top are shocking in their ability to almost blind with COLOR in the midst of all this gloom.

The Great Lakes Area is lucky to receive tropic-like sunshine for more than a few weeks every year. One year, I lived in a large house with a larger garden and counted the times I could sit out in the yard without extreme weather: 6 DAYS TOTAL. There was plenty of High wind. RAIN. And just the bleakest drab outlook for most of the summer.

Then again, we can have killer sunshine and temps for three months in a row.

As the temperatures now climb, the very same colors are starting to make sense…

So, perhaps, Mr. Ralph is practicing some Miami voodoo on us Northerners by dangling these clothes in our pallid little faces…

I would wear this suit in a second, if I lived 3 hours south…

What summer house wouldn’t be complete with some very bright cabled pillows and a kelly green afghan?
