I love knitting because it allows me to be creative and not snack a lot.
There are many reasons why love knitting. I enjoy making beautiful gifts for family and friends and I love all the beautiful yarns that are available. But I think the thing I have enjoyed the most from my many years of knitting is the generosity of the people I have met in the knitting community. Knitters want to teach, solve problems, share patterns and yarn with fellow knitters. Your giving away the yarns is a perfect example of that generosity. Thanks
Oh knitting, the art of yarn & sticks~ how I love thee~ let me count the ways!
Creative, Calming, Inspiring, Practical, Relaxing, Tactile, Social, Stimulating, Comforting, Challenging, Community!
Knitting is my friend. Always there, ready to listen without judgement. Soothing me with its rhythm. Exciting me with its challenges and possibilities! Thank you!
Why I love knitting? Because you can do anything you want with it….it is just needles, yarn and your imagination.
I love to knit because I feel in tune with all the people who have ever knitted down through the centuries and I am thrilled to make things I love to see and wear.
I love knitting because it’s my way of expressing a creative outlet. I love colour, texture, the feeling of yarn moving through my hands.
I love having something at the end that may or may not be for me (that bit doesn’t matter so much) and feeling a sense of satisfaction, sometimes outright surprise that I actually made that!
Pulling on a sweater, a cardi etc and thinking yes, I made this and it’s good.
Knitting calms my mind, gets me into a flow.
I also love the other side, when things go pear shaped and after the frustration goes, learning curves come in. And I have learnt so much. It’s helping me to become more fearless.
What more could I ask for?
I love knitting because it is both relaxing and productive at the same time. TV viewing would not be the same without it!
Knitting … meditative, soothing, forgiving
I love knitting because I love to squish and pet beautiful yarn. I also agree with what everyone else said. That is gorgeous yarn. Thanks for the giveaway.
No matter for whom I am creating the item, the process of knitting always gives something of value to me. In being generous to others, I am always on the receiving end of knitting’s benefits.
I love knitting because it is relaxing and I love looking at all the beautiful colors. I probably spend too much time looking and admiring than knitting. Sometimes it takes me hours to go through a yarn catalog just looking at the colors and trying to decide exactly what I want. By the way, that color is one of my all time favorites, such a lovely shade of red.
I LOVE knitting because I am able to enjoy my hobby while being social with others. Whether I’m watching TV with my family or meeting up with friends at my LYS, I can be crafty and interact with others. The fondling of lovely fibers is a bonus!

Truly, there is nothing I’d rather be doing than knitting. It is relaxing, meditative really. It is healthy. It is creative. It is productive. It can be social or solitary (my knitting circle are among my closest friends) In fact, knitting allows me to make friends anywhere I go throughout the world; I’ve checked out knitting shops everywhere I’ve travelled and always meet the nicest and happiest people. True, knitting can be challenging, but it also compels me to learn new skills and stretch my brain and fingers. It is rewarding. It makes me happy. And it is FUN! Valentine’s Day is my knitting anniversary. I learned during the Baltimore Blizzard of 2003 and I have LOVED knitting every since!
I love to knit to satisfy my creative side. Colors, patterns, textures and beautiful soft yarns. Knitting for someone is a wonderful way to think about them with every stitch. It is such a great pastime!
I LOVE KNITTING because at the same time that I’m creating something wonderful for someone I love, I’m soothing my spirit, feeling the fiber, and remembering precious times with that person.
You’ll laugh but it really is because of the color. I got into it because I was blown away by Kaffe Fasset’s use of color (back in 1983). And now with the rise of subtly toned “solid” color yarn I’m pulled along in most every project by what will the colors combine as next..! The only downside is that it’s tough to knit large pieces with truly solid colors anymore. Thanks for the sweet giveaway, Bonne Marie!
I’m not sure which I love more, the cast on and excitement I feel when I start a new project or the pleasure of finishing one and presenting to some one I care about. No…its about TOUCHING all the yarns in a yarns shop…at least 4 times each before you finally choose. My poor husband.
Knitting soothes my soul, warms my heart, and makes it possible to delight those family members who appreciate hand made items and care for them appropriately.
I love knitting because it’s versatile – I can have a complicated project or a comfort project, and I can knit for practical or artistic purposes.
Knitting is literally what keeps me together. When life seems about to overwhelm I grab my needles and begin….aaahh goes my whole being and in my relaxed I seem to have greater access to my frontal lobe and I sort out and figure out new solutions and creative paths life is right as rain again.
I love knitting…oh how I love to knit! Which part I love best is a day to day thing, and varies between the colour, the textures and the end product. I have filled dresser drawers with colourful socks for each member of my family as well as warm woolly sweaters. I find knitting relaxing and my favourite thing to do is to sit in front of the computer to watch a knitting video or to listen to a sound podcast knitting away on my current projects.
I love knitting and crochet because of the real world and virtual world connections I’ve made; with people who enrich my life.
Not only is it relaxing and calming but I have something at the end which is unique to me – not mass produced (my current unique project is a cassidy which I’m half way through at the moment!)
I love knitting because it gives me a chance to have something that I really like and can put my own original twist on. If I don’t like some aspect of it – I can change it. Fun, relaxing, surprises sometimes – both good and not so good LOL. It keeps your mind active and you get a lovely item at the end of it. I hope I will be lucky as I really love the colour of the yarn! Thanks Bonne Marie.
I love knitting because it relaxes me and fills my “idle time” whenever I’m waiting at a doctor office, dance lesson, etc. And I create beautiful and useful things!
I love knitting because I make new friends instantly!
This week I traveled from California to Iowa for work. Through Ravelry, I was able to locate an LYS and drop in to purchase yarn and participate in a knitting circle. I felt comfortable sharing time and comments with a group of women I may never meet again.
Knitting brings me into a community of knitters of all ages, gender and races where we can share our likes and dislikes of yarns, patterns, and techniques as if we’ve been friends forever.
I love knitting because it opens a whole new world of people and their ideas to me because we share the love of fiber, creating and designing beautiful hand knits and best is the camaraderie of knitters across the globe that are always willing to help each other and share their expertise and knowledge and as in this case offer wonderful knitting gifts. It’s so much fun.
I love knitting because it keeps me sane. It is calming and meditative at the same time as it is productive and challenging. Not much else can say all that.
i learned to knit when i was young but grew up in the deep south so it was not quite something we did normally – moving north after college, i rediscovered it but let it go again – then at a particularly low point in my life – the lowest ever – knitting reached out to me and pulled me through when there was not much else for which to live.
as EZ would say – Knit On, with confidence and hope, through all crises.”
now working in customer support for a software company, i face the same kinds of problems and solutions every day – i crave creativity in my life – and knitting helps with that.
my latest discovery (after knitting for years) is SOCKS! i am in love with SOCKS! right now just perfecting a simple toe up pattern cobbled from various others. also am working on a more intricate pair for a family member – but nothing beats a beautiful hand dyed yarn and a simple sock … knitting away and watching the pattern grow.
will return to other things one day – but for now socks rock me.
and that’s one of the other wonderful things about knitting – so many aspects – that there is always something to try or discover just like life.

I love knitting because it is sooo relaxing
I love knitting because it keeps me busy yet relaxes me.
I love knitting because it relaxes me and I love the feeling of accomplishment when I complete a new technique or pattern. I am actually addicted to knitting and can not go even one day without knitting.
What I love about knitting is that it is challenging and meditative at the same time. It can be creative and technical and provide for a life time of learning; it can also be rhythmic and repetitive and provide calm relaxation. Rare to find a hobby or discipline with such range.
Knitting has changed my life — it’s brought me friends, and shown me how generous other knitters are, and not just in knitting-related matters. It’s sometimes an intellectual exercise, sometimes a meditative one. It is an amazing craft to share with other people as there is more to learn about knitting than anyone can imagine when you’re first starting out. Knitting for others is so satisfying but knitting for oneself is too!
Knitting is kind of like having a best friend with you whenever you want.
Knitting is peace.
Knitting has exposed an entirely new community of people to me. Though I am the only knitter in my area, I have a world of knitter friends that I can reach out to in any situation.
I love knitting for a lot of reasons. Lately, it’s been because it helps me find balance while I work on finishing my PhD. It’s very calming and slows my mind down. Although, some people might look at the fact that I finished a sweater while writing as a sign that I haven’t worked hard enough, we all know better.
Because I’m good at it.
I love knitting because it gives me something productive to do with my hands in class, while watching tv, etc, and because it allows me to make beautiful one-of-a-kind presents for the people I care about.
I LOVE KNITTING because I’m more apt to do it than yoga, meditation, or anger management ;) with similar results!
I love knitting as it is something to do while watching TV instead of feeling like nothing is getting accomplished if I am just sitting there.
Knitting helps me to feel creative and productive even during the most difficult times. Recent life events left me too depressed to move some days, but I could convince myself to get out of bed with the promise of knitting.
I love knitting because it keeps me sane, gives me something to do as I watch my evening programs, lets me work with beautiful fibers and challenges me to try more difficult patterns and stitches which then keeps the brain active.
I LOVE knitting because it’s fun, challenging, relaxing, creative, exciting, maddening and makes me feel connected to my grandmother. One of the best things I ever did was take a knitting class when pregnant with my first child.
I love knitting because I can create usable expressions of love for others.
I love knitting because it is a structured way to make something beautiful.
I love knitting because I start with a ball of yarn and two wooden sticks and by wiggling the sticks around the yarn a whole bunch, I create something beautiful and useful. It’s like magic!
Knitting calms my mind from a day of busy chatter, I am able to step back from my life for a bit and make something with my hands.
