Monday Morning Mirth
OH!
how I wish I would’ve
read this
before I watched the Oscars!
The ONLY thing good about this excruciatingly LONG & Boring (yes, redundant to Even Mention It) Show was that my absolutely Favorite Director of All Time FINALLY was given his due!
(but how about those shadow dancers? Snakes on a Plane? The James Bond thingie really made me nervous!)
(oh, and my favorite moment? Duet or Duel? The song between Beyonce & Jennifer – was it just me or was that so over-the-top that you too had to run to the kitchen to get some Girl Scout cookies to escape the firing line?)
Duel, and it was won hands down by Jennifer. She has that “deep inside, from her soul” sound to her voice that only a substantive body can produce. Beyonce has a lovely “pop song” voice and it’s clean and clear but a little whimpy when compared (side by side) as it was last night.
Oh my god the show was SO MUCH BETTER after that second beer!
My favorite part is always the shots of the King of Hollywood, Jack. Always in the first row. They love him. Of course it would be the King who hands out the award for best movie. Diane Keaton had no business being on stage with the magnificence of Jack!
I was just focused on Jennifer Hudson’s breast popping out of her dress! Seriously!
Oh and also, the way to watch a show like this? TiVo it, wait an hour to watch it, then fast forward the whole show and only watch the parts you want to! Like Celine Dion? Bleep Bleep BLEEP!
Dude, I saw her go for the shoulder strap right before I ran for the cookies! She didn’t pop did she? Really? That would be tragic – I’m sure there were MILES of double-sided tape backstage…
Frankly, I was more concerned with the abundance of underarm blow-outs going on with all the strapless dresses –
Is there an official term for that phenom – like an underarm equivalent of muffin-top? My fave, Cate Blanchett, had the most wonderful dress, but it fit well on left side and muffined out on the right.
If we can solve this one, brides everywhere will thank us, think of it…
I gave up before it was over but the duel/duet was a hoot. You all hit on my feelings EXACTLY!
aah. it made me so uncomfortable. I hate that we love each other-hate each other dynamic. And then Anika Rose came out and she was so professional and calm, what a contrast.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. My thoughts exactly, Bonne Marie.
Oh, that’s excellent. I wondered if I were the only one picking up on that duet/duel vibe. Cat’s claws!!! Freakin’ divas.
My favorite part when all the nominees stood up for a round of applause. Do they do they every year? I don’t remember it. Oh, and the shadow dancers. Penguins!
But I haven’t seen the duet/duel. We TIVO’d and did a delayed start so we could zip through all the boring parts, then (waaahh!) couldn’t stay awake long enough to watch it all.
Duel, absolutely. My favorite moment was when Ellen asked Spielberg to take her picture with Clint for MySpace. And then asked him to take it again!
I thought the same thing as Scout. I was hoping that she’d have the dress adjusted in between songs. It was almost a Janet Jackson moment.
Oh yeah, duel. No question.
Duel, no question. And yes, Jennifer won…but Beyonce became a far better singer due to the competition!
My husband and I actually placed bets as to whether JHud’s breast would escape or not…(I won, but barely!)
My vote for best dress has to go to Reese Witherspoon – fabulous, sexy, chic and no fears of a “wardrobe malfunction”!
The Oscars were last night? Hmmm, I don’t do TV apparently.
I was snacking-then went to bed early. So happy Marty finally got his due!!!!
On the bright side, I did get lots of crocheting done last night. I vote for Penelope Cruz’s dress; very classy and put together but still fun. I loved Ellen as the host, but nearly 4 hrs. of awards? I just feel bad for the young stars that had to sit through it without fidgeting.
I’m glad to know that I wasn’t the only one completely fixated on that breast. I was wincing everytime she inhaled.
