Now that the MondoRib Shell has gone vertical, it’s time for it to GO RADICAL as well.
Using my friendly photo-editing program (in this case, Adobe Photoshop), I’ve taken my original shot and copied it to try out some new moves.
I planned to make a mid-depth V-neck finish on this shell but once I got started drawing and trying different neck shapes, my original plan started to lose its appeal.
Hmmmm. Which neckline does this piece justice?…
late addition – a squared-off neckline

I’m going to take a leap and say that I like the bottom right version – simple and works with the lines of the centre section for me! (I knit up a couple of your bottoms-up hats from your pattern recently – excellent instructions, beautifully clear and just the right amount of detail – thank-you!)
I’m torn between the bottom two. But since its sooo hot right now I guess I’ll choose the bottom left for a little more skin exposure, lol. What a nifty way to photoshop crop those bad boys. They are all great neckines. I am quite impressed by your photoshop skills. I will definitely be checking out that tutorial link, thanks!
I wonder if you could do a square/scooped neckline that would echo the front detail and have some skin exposure?
I really like the first one. I think because it so unexpected. the othe necklines you see all the time. This may not be the best foe HOT weather, but it can go under a jacket, straight through winter.-It’s just different
Heh. heh. I’m going to be contrary and tell you that I live your original V-neck idea best. Not only does it expose some skin and breathe a little better, but I also like the way that the V in the senter of the wide rib provides a counterpoint. If I were to pick a runner up (and it’s actually a close second), I would pick the more scoop neck version in the bottom left corner.
Who wants yarn up to your eyeballs — even cotton — on a warm summer day?
Can’t wait to see what you decide. It’ll be a fun top either way.
I have to agree with Theresa, the v-neck or the deeper scoop neck. I am so impressed with Photoshop! and with you too, Bonne Marie.
I personally like the deeper scoop neck (lower left) the most, but that may be because I have a longish neck I like to show off.
Actually, the mock turtleneck is cute, too, but might be a little warm for a summer shell.
Scoop neck all the way. It looks like it fits the ribbing and the design.
I like the top left and the bottom right. They both look like that center “panel” of ribbing extends to the neck – more continuous. But all four look fab! Love that ribby combo.
I like the bottom left and the bottom right, in that order, thought the higher neckline is slightly more unusual. I’m surprised at how different each choice looks!
I like either of the bottom best. Very intrigued by the square idea, though… Cool editing!
I like the bottom left!
I was drawn to the V neck first.
But then I scrolled down, and like the squared-off neckline best. I like how it highlights the contrast in the reverse stockinette.
I vote for the 5th one – the squared-off neckline.
I like the bottom-left one, personally . . .
I love the bottom left! It is the most flattering and would show off your neck and a necklace as well. The bottom right would be my choice if you intend to wear it under jackets, etc. Great photoshop editing, by the way.
I like the bottom left one as well, what a great use of photoshop to work all this out.
Hey Mz Bonne… thanks for the photoshop link – now I’ll never get anything done here at work! My vote is for the bottom right neckline. I do however like how your square neckline isn’t huge and too low like most are. Beautiful.
be there or be square! i like square best. very fun to help you choose.
I like the squared one. I think it suits the tank.

I like the funnel or the square.
Bottom right or the squared one seem to suit the mondo rib best. But looks like everyone has a different opinion here, so I’d say yours is the only one that really matters. ;)
I have been lurking here for a while–you are a must on my blog list every morning. But the thing that encouraged me to write in was your link to Team Photoshop. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am always looking on line for information on how to do what I want to do in Photoshop, and this link is a godsend!
Love the bottom left one!
I love using PaintShopPro to edit knitting garments like this :)
Photoshop is my web site’s best friend!
Okay…there’s something about the last neckline that appeals to me, but it’s the square neckline that seems brings out the most in the pattern. Something about the similarity in geometrical shapes – the square neckline with the center panel on the tank. They complement each other nicely.
I agree that the square neckline follows the contours of the pattern nicely, but I wonder how it’ll wear? Personally, I prefer either of the higher necklines. Gorgeous shell, tho’ no matter which neckline you choose!
My favorite is the funnel, but the square is nice, too. Looking yummy!
I feel tricked! (but in a good way). When the page first opened, I though you must have gotten SUPER motivated to do the front and then re-work it a few times. (LOL) Now wouldn’t that be a fierce trick in and of itself!
I like the square neckline the best, In the photo on my monitor it looks like there’s some ribbing stitch in the center panel. The shaping just works well. Second choice: funnel, but whatever you choose will be great!
What a wonderful way to compare necklines! I like the bottom left – I think it’s more flattering – however, I can see the point of how the square works well with the mondo rib.
But I agree with Andrea – it’s your opinion that counts!
I like them all. Why not knit one for yourself in the methos you like best and then offer the pattern with the variations. I know its a lot of math, but I feel quite certain that you would start a knit-along frenzy. (I see buckets all over out here in LA!)
Hmmm, glad I checked back in after work. I looooooove the squared off neckline, it really does that chunky ribbing justice.
SQUARE!
It’s SO perfect in the image.
All of the neckline options are nice, but the squared neck fits the style the best. But of course, this is just my opinion! ^__^
Either the square, if it will retain its shape, or the bottom left. Your opinion is what matters most. Any of the necklines would look great on you.
Think your work is inspirational. Mrs. CB’s camp jacket is exactly the kind of chic, classic, functional lounge-around-garb I was looking for.
I vote for the funnel, or one of the V’s. The square may echo the pattern in the shell and all, but I don’t think it’s the best choice to complement the shape of your face. I like the idea about making you slave away on pattern options for the rest of us, though, as they are all attractive:)
Yet another vote for the squared off neckline. It just seems to really accentuate the mondo rib nicely. My second choice would be the funnel.
WOW~!
This is just amazing! Thanks for all of the input – I am still looking.
I’ll go away for a few hours, then come back and look again. Evertime, I see something more I hadn’t thought of…
I love the first one. Looks awesome.
