With the definite change in season that’s landing now, I seem to be bit by the same bug that happens in the Spring.
All of sudden, de-cluttering the studio, stash, even the closet (horrors!), is happening over here.
Spring Cleaning in Fall? Feels fantastical!
But of course, it’s fast and furious into the car and swept away — I don’t want to have the option to decide to re-keep something — out-of-sight it truly out of mind. ;p
There’s bags to go to Goodwill. Yes. With yarn inside. (Shocking!)
And, I spent some time neatly grouping things that weren’t already in bags in hopes they get appreciated en masse instead of ending up in some kind of messy potpourri.
With the improved Landscape View of the place, I could see more clearly what was on hand to do real duty instead of being just a tapestry of color, a sightly but none-the-less mess of fiber that just wasn’t going to serve.
I am in a deadline frenzy and have to get real or go home with the work flow.
But, this didn’t mean I couldn’t have some FUN!
This little grouping is what I pulled from the Wall of Yarn remaining in the studio (here’s a shot from 2009, although it’s much smaller now) and here we find them sunning themselves in the nude like some Riviera goddesses…
These are all the same gauged yarns; they are all wool or wool blends.
I am in the process of taking some more pictures of them to see how they actually “speak” not only to my eye but the unforgiving camera eye.
This saves a lot of time in the long run. Some colors will never look accurate with digital photography (physics, my mateys!) because the color space, compared to what you see, is just so much smaller. I’ve learned the hard way, over the course of lots of photoshoots, to not trust the naked eye.
And then, there’s the absolute fact that something I thought would be thrilling (as seen on the skein) turns to drek when actually rendered as a garment.
And, you know what they say, uh-huh, a stitch in time saves nine…

Resolution #1
“NEVER be afraid to rip out a mistake
or even a whole project!!!
If it feels hinky & it looks hinky,
it is hinky and a few minutes of your time will send it back
onto the runway.”
Aah, she contemplates some colorwork? Cute hook (sunbathers).
Those all look really nice together, though I can understand wanting a few more test shots.
I forgot to mention that the time of day and the brightness of the sky all add up to color changes and sharpness as well.
I usually don’t take pictures in direct sunlight; you can see how it blasts out detail and makes things look a little harsh.
So, i’ve got a date with some shade or, my favorite, a nice overcast day. Yes, nice!
TGIF!
There is nothing more frustrating then getting part way through a project and having to rip it all out and start over, but you’re right, it does beat a finished project that doesn’t look right or an unfinished project you don’t want to work on.
Resolution #1 is speaking to me – I’m psyching myself up for a redo of my Cassidy. It’s just too big and I’ve learned I’m not a hoodie person, but I LOVE a big collar…
Where is your Goodwill?
