pardon our dust…
One Week Later: Here we are, doin’ the dozens (well, 11.5 doughnuts to be exact so far) and it’s time to go up on the dress form! This is a speedy little knit, and it’s been progressing nicely. There’s only 2.5 doughnuts left to go before the bottom ribbing.
The dressform is sharing space with lots and lots of things which you can see piled ceiling high behind it. There’s about 3 layers of stuff packed in boxes, my stash, books, drawers, lights, gear and who knows all stacked and living under curtains from the other rooms. I am slightly excited even typing this because the whole thing is such a pile of Humpty Dumpty that it could, well, let’s not think about that ;p
Things have progressed a lot since I last wrote about the renovation saga due to flooding here at Chez Chic. Posting in ye olde blog has been lighter than I like (it’s a journal, no it’s a blog, oh it’s my work, yes it’s my life) because I have spent much of my free time packing and emptying the rooms to be fixed and because of a flame renaming this blog the “sob story: trials and tribulations of your oh-so-tramatic rehab”.
I admit it. Packing is not my favorite activity, in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who likes it and I am not ashamed to cry about it. I only like it now that it’s covered by curtains and waiting for its cue. :) Lot’s of the other work in the unit is getting to the point where I can see the boxes in the spotlight again soon, dancing their way onstage and getting back to normal. Unpacking is hella more fun than packing! My bathtub is filled with stuff too; I put a polar fleece blanket on the bottom of the tub and a quilt and filled it with all the lamps and breakables like pictures. My knitting projects have been living in that bathtub too, in a basket on top of all the other stuff. I like looking at them and I do not know why. :)
But I do know I’m having a ball knitting those doughnuts! Just that little pattern interest fore and aft seems to make me want to finish a row. Lots of knitters have told me this over the years and I must agree and shout: TIME to make the, you know…
Freakin’ A….someone flamed you for commenting about the frustrations of having house-fixing done?
I so do not get people. It’s not like he or she is paying for a subscription to your blog.
I guess I should be glad I have about 8 readers, because if I were “famous,” I’d have people commenting that “Wah wah wah…a friend of yours died. Stop whining and talk knitting.”
When will flamers learn that reading someone else’s blog involves the concept of free will, and that they don’t have to read on if they choose not to. I , for one enjoyed reading about the rehab of your nest. The donut cardi is really cute, by the way!
Hmmph. Clearly Said Flamer has never packed and *moved* (or renovated)! I’m just out of boxes, and I can testify to the challenges and work of the past *month*, packing to move house (new house = 2-1/2 hour drive from old house, each way), actually moving, and now, unpacking. Unpacking is definitely easier…some. Thankfully, I found some sock yarn and needles in the mess, and have my therapy!
I was going to write to comfort you about said flaming, but I’m glad to see others beat me to it. Actually, I have been interested in your mess and clean up because we recently purchased a place in Chicago (an urban cabin, dontcha know, since we live in the wilds of Wisconsin), and I’m paying attention to see how well repairs/rehab go in the “big city”. And I agree with previous comments. Why would someone flame you if they didn’t like your blog? I just remove ones I don’t like anymore from my list. No big.
Someone actually took you to task for writing something other than what they expected to read?
Whiners. They should get their own damn blog.
The doughnut sweater is coming out scrumptiously. I wish I had a dress form to fit my own knits and other creations on. The announcement “collapsible shoulder” on the form sounds like it’s meant to be something funny. Interesting that it’s printed across… well… not the shoulder.
gah. write what you damn well please, Bonne! that’s why we all come here…Hope the renovations are done soon. Can’t wait to see the pictures!
p.s. I’d love to see progress pics so I can cheer you on…
People look at me askance when I say things like people are dumb, but it is things like flaming that drive me to say things like that! It is just rude and insensitive to make comments like that.
Makes me agree with fillyjonk. It’s good that I only have 8 or so people reading what I write, or I’m sure I’d get a lot more pissy comments.
A pox on flamers. I have been wondering how the construction has been going. What is wrong with people? If you don’t want to read something – move on. Quickly. Love the doughnuts.
I’m feelin the donuts. They’re just the thing.
Write on through all crises! The heck with the naysayers!
Wow, that’s just really rude. I’m sorry that someone was so nasty, especially when you’ve got just about enough other stuff going on! :) You are creating a very pretty sweater though!
I’ve been through lots of moves (three houses packed since the first of the year), a couple major remodels and a couple of smallish household disasters. I empathize. The unheaval is disconbobulating even when planned. At least we have something with which to center ourselves. Hopefully, the worst is behind you.
Erm, do you find people making large detours around you? I mean, if you tub is full… (Just teasin’!)
Dear Bonne Marie,
I’m so glad you updated us on your home! I was just wondering how things were going. I can’t believe someone would flame you for talking about a REAL thing going on in your life, as real as (more real than?) our knitting, as important as that is to us.
You just ignore that mean person. I would add a comment about who they’re probably voting for for President, but that wouldn’t be nice…so I won’t! : )
Ignore ignorant flamers – such are likely living in their own personal hell & just want to spread it around. Those of us who love you outnumber them! Like the donuts. Calorie & fat-free goodness.
I tell you, people never continue to shock me. Really getting upset about you know, “your” blog! Dang, all they have to do is not read it. Reminds me of when people were all upset about Cara’s blog while she was pregnant. People are rude and I say just ignore ’em.
I’m still loving that doughnut cable. So much so, I might have to cast on for a hoodie, just to use that cable. Such a great idea!
