Where else can you get the chance to see goddesses with almost unlimited budgets still looking like always the bridesmaid sometimes the bride?
Where somebody must’ve been busy pitching the little mermaid look even though it would’ve been better off left closeted in davy jones locker, etc, etc…
Our favorite this year, call us callow if you must.
Yes, it’s not even a dress, but WHO in there ever-green loving mind could resist 115 carats of stone-cold emerald? (Well played my Angelina…) Who were your rants/raves?
Angelina’s earrings were fabulous! As for the dresses, I didn’t fall in love with any one dress. Nothing really stood out for me.
The one that made me catch my breath when she walked the Red Carpet was Marisa Tomei in Versace.
Viola Davis was quite gone with the glam in Reem Acra. Lovely…
And the ever fresh & tilted Tilda Swinton in Lanvin was ever the flip side of this.
But, what was up with all the severe 1940’s HAIR! Kate Winslet looked matronly (although her “Atelier Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati evening gown in grey degrade satin and embroidered black silk tulle” was quite interesting. I was confused by the cuppage and one-shoulderette with flocked black accents. If even a neutral colored dress has TMI going in all different directions how can we land to worship?).
My favorite was Anne Hathaway’s dress–I think it was Versace. The ceremony itself was so long and tedious, and the musical numbers were incoherent.
Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain was my breath catching moment of the evening! Anne Hathaway ran a very close second. My rants would be to whoever dressed Beyonce and Meryl Streep for the evening. Both ladies looked elegant and beautiful from the neck up, but those dresses, yikes!
Methinks our Meryl could’ve at the very least dug up some underwire, somewhere, somehow.
I totally agree the Musical Numbers seemed like they came from outer space (or maybe the Tony’s) and was busy eating cookies in another room to escape their hammer.
I loved the neckline on Heidid Klum’s dress — reminded me of oragami. There was another oragami-esque dress, but I don’t remember who wore it. It was a bit more over the top.

i must be a “Broadway Baby” because I thoroughlyenjoyed the musical numbers or maybe it was just that the Jackman was standing in front of me. He could have sung a phone book and i would have been enthralled. I thought Natalie Portman looked wonderful and was sorry to see her paired with Ben Stiller doing Jaquin. And Queen Latifah rocked her frock!!
I just loved how Kate Winslet’s dress sparkled as she walked up on stage to accept her Oscar.
Penelope Crus seemed to be channeling Audrey Hepburn. I don’t know what Sara Jessica Parker or Reese Witherspoon were thinking.
Amy Adams looked fantastic. LOVED that dress and jewels.
Her necklace was sooo gorgeous! Everytime I’ve seen her dressed formally, she looks very chic.
Angelina’s emerald earings were gorgeous on her but I don’t understand what she does with her hair. She’s a gorgeous brunette and sometimes it seems as if she just pulls it back and clips it herself. No one has mentioned the men’s outfits – I liked Sean Penn’s black on black formal wear.
Delicia, you are so right! I was very enthralled by the monotone layerings of some of the tuxedoes. I thought some were wearing deep navy and brown with the blacks and with the combinations of fabrics, they looked wonderful!
I was actually a little disappointed in M. Rourke’s bland tux (alas, I also thought he should’ve won Best Actor!). Mr. Rourke usually wears some incredibly interesting designer layerings, which have thrilled and intrigued me over the years.
