In pre-celebration of the Spring that’s sure to come sometime this, erm, SPRING! I’ve been cleaning my studio. Lots of stuff’s been moved around, packed, tossed, and re-arranged. There’s still one really embarrassing corner of the room, but I’ve left it for a rainy day. It’s still snowing here, so that could be a little passive agressive, but we’ll wait and see…
FOUND: pieces of a Scoop du Jour from a couple of years ago. This sample was made because I planned a fresh picture for the pattern, then it was boxed because the pattern was revised and tech edited — I added more sizes and made some subtle changes here and there. The color of this piece was also an issue.
In Digital Photography, many colors fall outside the reproducible range of the RGB colorspace, which is represented on the left as triangles. Magneta, BINGO! Peacock Blue, CHECK!
That means there are many tones you can see but can’t print or even display on a monitor correctly (or at all). I wrestle the blues all the time, and when I revisited this garment, I decided it was going to be wardrobe (lucky moi!) because taking pictures of it for press and web would make me into a frothing idiot.
Indeed, a small drool bubble is in the corner of my mouth right now from merely taking this shot! Look at the small, small area inside the triangles and then outside and below the triangles. If you need more proof, look at people’s lipstick colors on ANTM. If they look alien, pulsing and weird, they are some kind of magenta. MSNBC & CNN folks sometimes trip on this banana peel quite often as well ;p
But it is STILL a fresh and wonderful color and it’s being finished. Here you see the two front pieces, one pressed and one unpressed. What a diff! I went on to press all the pieces then started assembling in this order:
– Shoulder Seams
– Side Seams
– Buttonbands (pickup 4, skip 1)
– Neckband
Still to come: Sleeve Seams and setting in.

In the meantime, I have finished the Cassidy sweater, except for the sewing on of the buttons. Never one to miss an opportunity to pull out the Ham, I pressed the neckband…
Bonne, it never ceases to amaze me the things I learn from you… I spent 12 years working at Kodak, looking at all kinds of photographs and learned a thing or two about color, but nothing resembling the little lesson you just taught us on Magenta! Or the lesson on the taylors ham, that was very also one to tuck away. If I get stumped I often visit your web page to see if you have a tutorial or something written up regarding my situation…. I want to thank you for your patience in explaining and teaching…
One thing I did notice when working at the big yellow k was that some makeup does not photograph well. My suggestion to brides is to have the make up done ahead of time and get photographed in different lights to see if it will look ok in the photos… and make sure they check the flash out shots with the makeup too.
I have to echo the comment voiced by Leslie from California. I have learned many things about knitting from this website because it is the first site I go to when I have any problems. I have printed out many of your suggestions and created a three-ring binder just for your suggestions and patterns. I wanted to say a great big “THANK YOU” for sharing your knowledge with other knitters (especially those new and self-taught knitters like me!)
I love your modification to the collar of Cassidy. I tried to change the collar but it didn’t turn out very well. I was wondering if you would kindly share how you changed the collar for someone who is inexperienced in changing patterns. THANK YOU!

Easy Peasy: I really didn’t make any mods. :)
I made the neck edge like the pattern says to. Then, looking at the list of finishing above (buttonbands row), you can see what else to do: pick up sts in a 4/1 ratio and knit a 2×2 ribbed band for both the front edges and the neckband. It’s that simple — yay! :)
Bonne Marie, you crack me up with all your moving and cleaning and finding things. I am the same way. Like the other commenters, I am interested in your hoodless Cassidy. I am currently up to the sleeves, and I’m planning on leaving off the hood, but thinking of doing a big collar. If that doesn’t work out, I think I’ll do the neckband as above, so thanks for the instructions!
HA! I just found some Black – Black Water Abbey yarn in my closet and thought of YOU, Emily! I was so gung ho on a black Aran but fell off the wagon.
