Fini: buttonbands, neck band, sleeves! All that’s left to do is finish the pockets, weave in the ends and sew on the buttons! I’m thinking of going with plain black to mirror the black banding in the piece.

Thanks to a sunnier (!) day (current temp: 30° with a wind chill of 22°), the camera came out and I could take some CU shots of the the colors in these yarns. To me, they are not opposites but more like the yin and yang of a similar tonal range. One encompasses the darker, as if in the shade, the other brighter, as in the sun.

Of course, the width of the stripes was totally at the mercy of the circumference of the garment. At the top of the sweater, in the yoke, the stripes were quite narrow, a function of both the latter and the color repeats of Yarn #1. At the time the division for the Body took place, Yarn #2 came into play, and it yielded wider stripes, as its color repeats were longer and the stitch counts less. The same dynamic happened in the Sleeves, where the widest stripes were formed.

Then there was the Lace. Wherever that happened, a little more yarn was used, and it shifted the tones even more. I especially love the area around the front bands who’s graceful lines wave in a delightful sea & sky kind of way like wind over water.
