Onde = Wave = Ombre
More Onde LOVE!
the 1st variegated ball lasted
until halfway through the cap
If reading around the blog ring is a good barometer of the Universal Knitting Goddess’ hormone level, it would appear that April is, indeed the cruelest month. We are all flying straight into what little sun is breaking through the leftover winter clouds and singeing our tail feathers.
Case in Point: this sleeve should’ve been done this weekend. Other duties(including, but not limited to, dining, theater, drinking) HAD to be attended to so into the week arrived the WAVE. I met up with Carolyn, Mary and the IndiGirl Herself, AMY, for cocktails and knitting in the lobby of the Hotel Intercontinental, Monday. A little wine, a little dim sum, fine conversation, and…
In a space of two hours, I knit and re-knit the sleeve cap until I was wonked! Oh why, Onde Queen, would this cause such a tizzie? COULD it be, I just couldn’t understand the pattern translation? I rewrote it twice to conform to the way I was used to getting sleeve cap instructions; then failed twice, trying to execute my own folly. Made myself read it AGAIN, and last night, knit it exactly to the directions. Here’s my final notes, written on my phone bill (unpaid). I still had to step away from the pattern and talk in Bonneese.
How to make it better? Go Shopping!
The actual #1 Cruelty of April for me is Allergies. I have been scratching my face off, sneezing, waking up every morning with eyes so puffy and bloated, I look like I was boxing with George Foreman over the grill. ( Just a comic aside – has anyone EVER opened a bank account JUST to get that GFgrill? Please write me!)
I recently lost my almost lifelong doctor because my health insurance provider doesn’t pay their bills ( they not only nickle and dime the doctors and clinics to death, they actually don’t pay their bills until they’re SUED!). So, instead of trying to find a new doctor to go see for some new and improved allergy medicine, I tripped on over to the local drugstore for some OTC Claritin AND spent the $$$ I saved on these:
Can you say, OOh La la, Dr. Chanel, check out the Bling in the corner of the lens, that’s Coco’s favorite flower the Camelia.
OMBRE for Everybody!
…all photos
I hope Dr. Chanel does the trick. My kids are suffering with allergies right now too. Hang in there.
My daughter WANTS those glasses for her 13th birthday next month. No party, no other presents, just THESE sunglasses, please Mom!
She is not happy with me because I told her that this is not appropriate for a young girl. We have to have something to look forward too!
Of course, I am no fashionista. Please Bonne, what do you think? Have I ruined her life?!
Here’s what I’d do:
1. Buy them for yourself, then let her *borrow* them occasionally.
OR
2. Let her have a pair of Guess – they’re all over ombre as well – and you won’t cry crocodile tears when she throws them in her backpack and they break…
Clarityn is a gift… it’s the only way I can leave the house every morning right now!
I love the Onde sleeve! The color is so very pretty, and I love how it just fades on up the sleeve. What fun!!
My allergies are worse this year than they have been for many years. I haven’t had a voice for almost 2 weeks now. I begged the doc for a kenalog shot on Monday, but he wants to try another drug combo first: 1 Allegra in the morning, 1 Zyrtec in the evening, and two blasts of Nasacrom up each nostril once a day. Hasn’t helped much yet, but it’s only Wednesday! Hang in there!!!
i hope claritin works for you – it does nothing for me. the 24 hour one doesn’t even make it 45 minutes.
oh and i’m so not kidding when i say i WISH where i was bloated was in the face, i don’t have to try and fit clothes over THAT!!
So I’m not the only one who uses my unpaid bills as scratch paper? (And I wonder how my identity nearly got stolen a few months back…)
You gave me a hearty laugh today. Thanks.
Good luck with the Claritin. So far, I get moderate relief by taking Zyrtec every 12 hours, and using Rx eye-drops. My (#&$*# insurance just sent me a letter know that my co-pay will be going up to $50(!!) because they’re removing it from the formulary. No idea what I’m going to try next… Claritin and Allegra both failed to touch my allergies, and ClarinX isn’t on the formulary, either.
So…in the end the pattern directions for the cardigan were accurate? I’m hoping to make this cardigan, too, so I’d be grateful to know if there is an error!
Thanks.
Zoey
geez I want summa that Onde yarn!
I love the color progression of your sleeve. I’m making the key hole pullover (orange Onde) and was very happy with the progression of the back . . . UNTIL . . . the white was introduced. It seems like there is a noticeable “band.” I’m curious if anyone has experienced this knitting with the other colors. And I want those glasses.
Hey Zoey! The pattern is absolutely CORRECT! I was a dork…
Hi Carol! Mine seems to be like that as well, althought it isn’t that noticeable to me, and actually seems more pronounced on the right side of the sleeve!
I think it looks just fine a few inches away. Your sweater is going to be so stunning it just won’t matter.
ROFL! You be stylin’ in your Chanels and fall 2 rows short in OBRE heaven/hell! Waaah! I’m so jealous of the blogger meetups. Um, rewind a ball and start with the white part to finish the sleeve? I guess that doesn’t help you with the other seelve, huh? Yike! You’re making me want some of that yarn though…
Ugh! Bonne Marie, I actually work for the bank that is pushing the George Foreman grills right now. Personally, I think they are over-rated. Mine is collecting dust in one of my kitchen cupboards.
Great glasses!
Here is a painless, inexpensive, and very, very effective allergy cure. Although being in the city this might be a tough one for you. Maybe some industrious person has a hive in downtown Chicago.
Buy some honey that is locally made. Take 2 tlbs. a day, EVERY DAY! After about a month your allergies will disappear. Why? Because the bees are using local pollens to make the honey and by ingesting small amounts your body builds a natural immunity to them. TAH-DAH! GO MOTHER NATURE!!!
Just reading your sidebar-the Dylan thing-have you *seen* that commercial? Icky! Dirty old man learing at young undressed girl. Was Sting at the tv fasions show? He is old too! What are they going for-heebie jeebies? (No, I am not a prude, and I am closer to Dylan’s age than that model, but Dylan should be checking out someone his own age!)
can you tell me what kind of yarn this is an who makes it or any other yarn with an ombre effect. I can seem to find any anywhere! Could you give me some place to start?
A couple of places to buy ombre yarn are on the Onde FAQs page:
