Twist Redux Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Clearing out the WIP basket is so invigorating I’ve had to start something else immediately.

Going through the wardrobe, it’s readily apparent that some of the things that are my favorites aren’t even in there! They instead live in the Trunk: that ever expanding roadshow that goes hither and yon as samples for the portfolio.

Especially missing: a Twist sweater of my very own. I really like the sample; I made it for myself but it immediately became a sample when I didn’t have enough time to knit another for a photoshoot. When that happens, it’s hands-off (unless you occasionally cheat and model it during, say, a book sigining…)

So to celebrate the coming season, my favorite transitional time between summer and fall, I’ve dug in the stash and pulled out some Cotton Ease in Taupe and started a Twist that with any luck should be ready to roll right around when it’s back-to-school time.

So far, one sleeve down and one on the needles. I’m practicing extreme discipline here, people, knitting the sleeves first so I’ll be especially motivated to finish the rest quickly. This is one of the primary reasons I like knitting things in pieces. You can choose yer poison.

And pretty poison it is…

(BTW: Does anybody have a couple of skeins in this color (Taupe)
dyelot 35102, that they’d be willing to part with?)

  1. Looks great. As Cotton Ease has been discontinued have you found anything you consider to be a good substitute? The price was right and the feel was so nice!

  2. Que? Heart attack time! I knew they discontinued some of the colors. Where did you see that the yarn was discontinued? (It is still on their site.)

  3. Sleeve first – that’s a great idea. If you’ve slogged through the sleeves, you may as well knit the sweater. To paraphrase Indiana Jones’ “I hate snakes!”, I hate sleeves!

  4. Well, that’s not nice of LB to discontinue a great neutral color like that! I will check my dye lot(s) to see if the Taupe I have matches yours.

  5. I have 46g of that dyelot I would be happy to send you if it helps. My label says 35102A.

  6. Drat. My 2 balls of Taupe are not the same dyelot. Hopefully there are other knitters out there (maybe on Rav’s ISO & Destash group?) will be able to help.

  7. Ack! I was wrong – I came across something that said it was but now I see it’s there. Sooooooo sorry! I’ll order some today in your honor! ;-)

  8. My three balls are a different dyelot :)
And just cast on for the mondo cable shell-but would have given them to you if they matched.
    Hope you find some!

  9. I guess the debate goes on with knitting in the round vs. piece knitting. Me still likey piece knitting but I am trying in the round with your CeCe. So far so good.

As for knitting the sleeves first, you’re a brave one. Though I think it is a fabulous idea. Hmm, though it goes both ways. If you like the body of the sweater, you may be motivated to tackle the sleeves post haste.
