Monday Morning Mirth
Once upon a time a couple of years ago, I mocked an associate for cruising eBay (at work) in search of awesome Fendi purses. What a loser, I thought, I would never waste my time like that…
Alas! Payback, is as they say, a Mother…..
or, in my case, a PomPom! Ahem, TONS of PomPoms!
little scratchin’ feet included
bi-lingual directions included for this lovely Coccinelle (hey, where’s the antenna for this bug? – Oh – MIA parts, does this call for
that elusive beast – Neutral Feedback?)
add some Class to your Powder Room Sass with this lovely Cygne. Scratchin’ Feet also good for propping books open…
Ok. What was YOUR silliest eBay purchase?
OMG — I had either that kit or one very similar when I was a kid.
Silliest eBay purchase? A fez.
Don’t ask.
Never bought boo on e-bay (I’m too distrustful of my fellow human), but I have bought some silly and oddball things in antique shops.
My most bizarre purchase, it’s hard to describe, but it’s a figurine of a dinosaur. But not just any figurine or any dinosaur: it’s an Ankylosaurus, but it’s an Ankylosaurus that’s duded up to look like an animal on a carousel (little bridle and saddle and all). It was so incredibly RANDOM (and it was only a buck) that I had to have it.
incidentally, if you want to make the ladybug and want antenna, you can go to a craft store and buy a pack of the “stamens” they sell for making fake silk flowers.
I bought an electric yogurt maker. Not so silly, but when I read the full description at 3pm (rather than 3am), I realize that I was paying $1 for the item and $12 for shipping. Never mind that the item was from Europe — different wiring — and missing 1/2 of the lids. Useless!
I got into a bidding war over some old Burger King kids meal toys – a full set of the characters from “Land Before Time”. I was buying them for my then 3 year old, but to get into a bidding war! Yikes. I think I paid $25 or $30.
What? That is AWESOME! I want one.
Hee! I love the Cygne! That would definitely class up a joint.
(most recent)Silly eBay purchase: dozens of pairs of ceramic/plastic eyeballs, blue, gray, and brown. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
I’ve just had a terrible flashback. I think I had one of those kits – those little arched feet look awfully familiar.
What an odd feeling.
Silliest ebay purchase? Probably a designer bag that was just so cute I HAD to have it.
Not that silly, really, but… A 1931 vintage American Standard porcelain pedestal sink, color: Orchid of Vincennes.
I bought a pair of handcuffs from the 1800’s. They were for my husband who’s in law enforcement so maybe they aren’t that weird, but the fact that they aren’t yarn or fiber is pretty weird for me.
I remember that kit from my childhood! Wow, memories!!! I think that is a completely worthwhile activity. Have fun!
Hope everyone had their breakfast already………Weirdest thing ever that I THOUGHT about buying on ebay is barfbags from a bad B horror movie. Supposed story goes that the movie was supposed to be so scary that they were going to hand these out before the movie. Movie never made it, barf bags survived intact, unused. Maybe I’ll have to go back and buy some now, too funny.
Well, it could be a toss up between a box of empty baby food jars and used tennis balls. The baby food jars were to make outdoor candle holders (seems less wierd now doesn’t it?) and the 60 used tennis balls were for my dog who loves to chase balls but won’t bring them back. Gawd forbid I should go get them and get exercise myself…
I actually fought to win a box of stained glass remnants. When it arrived it finally occured to me that this was a box of broken glass–and I paid $15 to clear out someone’s garbage…
i’ve purchased for way too much money some really gross yarn.
Bert and Ernie Colorforms. I had this exact same set as a child and couldn’t resist.
My first ebay purchase ever was a set of six VHS tapes with She-Ra episodes on them. The quality was God-awful but it was definitely worth it. He-Man used to be my boyfriend, you know. ;-)
I don’t think this is a silly buy! I have 2 of these, one from childhood, er um 40+ yrs ago, and one almost identical in the parts but not the leaflet made by Inox and bought in Switzerland 10yrs ago. It makes great easy pom poms. Now you have to adorn your sweaters, scarves and life with pom poms!
Not to say I’ve never make a silly eBay purchase. But here I do agree with Judith, Claudia, and Wendy. This was one of my fondest toys as a child! I still have some of my pom pom critters and the pom pom maker. The Spears games (including the Knitting Nancy) were charming toys. So if you regret your Pom Pom Pets purchase I would happily buy it from you!
TeeHeeheeeeeeeeeeeee…
It is delightful! No regrets here – I look forward to many months looking at this while it hangs on the wall by the coffee maker so it’s the first think I see in the morning…
I believe I see a PomPom Monkey in my future!
I’ve only made wise investments on eBay. ~snort~ Besides buying up everyone’s dead grandmother’s stack of old patterns, I just hooked myself up with a set of O-fficial Ronco flower looms, in the box and everything! And amazingly enough, I also got a “Yarn Crafter” toy from the 70’s that makes, among other things, pom-pom animals. Maybe our pom-pom pals can have a play date.
“Jungle Puppies”
who could resist a Japanese yarn called..”jungle Puppies”? Certainly not me, so i have 10 skeins of the aforementioned mystery yarn. Maybe wool, i’m not sure, but it is mine and I love it!
I had one of those when I was a child. I loved it. I still have the pom pom makers. They still make the BEST pom poms. I think your purchase was GREAT. I was born in 1963. So that pom pom set might be circa 1968-1972. Do you have a copy right?
