What’s wrong with this picture? Well, besides being a little boring in the content department, there is one really odd development on my knitting landscape…
The needle is the same color as the yarn!
This is causing a crisis of knitting confidence in the workshop. Take a lace pattern, add a splittsy yarn, coupled with a monotone needle with a real pointy end and you have
HAIRPULLINGteethgnashingGRINDINGshakingCHAOS!
After you go through your entire collection of needles, you find THIS is the only needle that will work with your combination of yarn, tension and goofed way of knitting to make an even stitch. Hmmm. You don’t have a BAMBOO needle in this size and suddenly you are convinced this is the ANTIDOTE to your stitch poison SO you run to the yarn store to get one and VOILA!
They’re closed. On a Friday. On PayDay. Which, in your middle-class world is like the biggest door slamming on your head! (Just go to my local Target on a Friday night and see the PayCheck Partay going on over there…)
Should I soldier on or go back for another round of Not Got?
Go back. If this is going to drive you this nuts then it won’t be fun knitting the piece and then, why do it? This is supposed to be your hobby. Your fun time. You deserve a bamboo needle today!
Definitely go back for the bamboo….sheesh, how many times have I gone to the knit shop in DESPERATION for a needle that I must have to start a project NOW…only to put off doing the project once I had safely procured the needle. :)
I absolutely can NOT knit unless the needles and yarn are contrasted enough to be able to see. Find some new needles and save your sanity! Jane
Eeek, start over! If that was my project it would inevitably wind up in WIP hell.
Yeah, I’m knitting my java colorway yarn on a rosewood needle — which is WAY too close in color for comfort here. But it’s my pointiest needle. *sob*
Go back and get new needles but plod on with the project. I’d dab some nail polish on the current needle (you can always take it off) and keep on knitting. Remember, you’re a bad *ss knitter :)

LOL, PayCheck Party, I like that. I’m a member of that club, especially when it comes to ordering yarn.
I say stick with it until you can get some more needles b/c like Tanya said, you are a bad a$$ knitter. ;)
If you think white yarn on light needles is tough, try black yarn on dark needles, in a poorly lighted room!
It is amazing how knitting needles affect my knitting. I have bamboo, silverstone, plastic and old metal needles. I keep them all because different yarns need different types of needles.

I think I have solved my problem but it’s too early to tell – I’m in the *honeymoon* phase of trying out yet another pair of needles and am going to give them another day before I decide…
