Yarn Snob? Not I!
BUT, I am a NEEDLE SNOB! Addis or nothing!
Top: Before
Bottom: After
Believe it or not, the finish on these is a little sticky and just right for the slippery cotton I’m using. And the rebellious cable (that even under high temp torture from my hair dryer relaxed but just a little)? It is now out of the way just enough to HELP me keep tension on the line…
WOOT! WTB?!
Thesaurus entry: Someone who is ingenious is both inventive and resourceful, with a dose of cleverness thrown in.
I guess I will hold onto the Boyes needles I bought at the beginning of my knitting career and have ignored since I discovered Addi Turbos.
try a small pot with boiling water to relax your cord – it works pretty well (better than the hair dryer – I tried that first too!)
What a smart girl you are! I’m a big fan of make-it-work, but damn if you haven’t taken it to a whole new level. And I bet it is a lot easier to see those stitches on that bright blue needles… That’s why I try to stick to knitting bright colors. ;)
I have a set of Boyes that my daughter ‘knit’ into a ball of yarn (read: wove in and out of said ball so that the cable was a twisted mess). I’ve tried about every method I’ve found to get the kinks out of that cable and nothing has worked. Still those cheapies have their place don’t they? While my woods stick to non-natural fibers, the cheap Boyes always work with plastics or nylons!
I also find that the right knitting needles make a difference. I have bamboo, silverstone, metal and plastic needles. Different yarns work up differently on different types of knitting needles.
I was just going to suggest the same thing Suzanne did, hot water. It works!
And I must admit, I find it too hard to pass up Boye and Susan Bates needles at the Rag Shop. That 40% off coupon makes them so desirable… especially since I can’t afford to buy a bunch of Addis just yet. :) I wish Addi would make an interchangable kit like Susan Bates has.
Thanks for the tip! I’d tried it in some hot water before, but this time I brought the water to a boil and just threw the needles in there.
I figured, I’d paid pennies for them and if I messed ’em up, who’d care? (Not really thinking about the pot teeheeheeeeeeeeeeee…)
AND GUESS WHAT! It worked – the cable IS softer and quite usable now. THANKS :)
