  Monday Morning Mirth

I spend ALoT of time on the road – probably 30, sometimes 50% of my day is in my vehicle. More and more it’s happening…

I thought it was just us, just the MidWest, trying to carve out a Hip Identity in the Cultural Wilderness that is the USA…

but nooo…

IT’s EveryWhere!

and now that the Holidaze are upon Us, the bling has changed accordingly – trees, wreaths and more!

What’s the strangest one you’ve ever seen?

  1. Those dirty little things are NASTY. Here in St. Louis, it’s all about the wreaths lashed to the grille, or pine roping strung around the car-top carrier — sometimes with plastic balls and tinsel. Lovely.

  2. Oh, I haven’t seen those in Maryland or DC yet… but I bet they are coming. I find this somewhat disturbing!

  3. OOH! Possibly, initially, not MEANT to be Disturbing! When it first starts out, it’s HAPPY, SHINY, Hilarious to See from One’s Rearview MirroR!

It isn’t until after about 6 mo. of continuous taxi-garbage truck-vehicle use that it takes on the sinister DROOP :)

I myself have a Scooby-Do Air Freshener Stuffed Head hanging from my rearview mirror, so I invoke the Glass House Theorem at this point and will butt out…

  4. Ok, never have a seen someone do this, at least not where I live. Eww… I did have a neighbor that nailed a stuffed bear to the back of a huge 7 foot tall carved Wood Bear that he kept in his front yard. Yeah, we moved.

  5. I haven’t seen any of these…yet. There are probably tons of them around these rural Albertan parts, I just haven’t seen em. My own bit of Monday morning mirth happened while I was out running/trudging this morning in the dark. I rounded the second-to-last corner (almost done) and look up to find yet another new infill for sale. Only this one has been listed by a new listing agency that apparently doesn’t charge any listing fees. So it’s called itself…wait for it…Listless.ca. At 5:45 am, that was screamingly funny. And it’s still pretty funny three hours and two cups of coffee later. How bad can the rest of the week be?
    Cheers!

  6. I’ve never seen that in California. I’ve seen cars with tons of stuffed animals in the back window (and one who turned the car into a Tweetybird theme – I wish I had a picture of that car, it was just stunning), but none strapped to the grill. Weird.

  7. Hnmm, obviously I’m not on the road enough. Who would do that to a harmless stuffed animal??? You mentioned a visiting Wisconsin neighbor, I’m also a Wisconsinite where knitting appears to be a way of life these days!!

  8. I have never, ever seen a stuffed animal strapped to a car. I live a meager existence. Perhaps I should start the trend over here?

P.S. Offing on a tangent, there’s a girl in second year at school who wears a silver or sequined trucker hat EVERY SINGLE DAY. I think it’s supposed to be her “statement” or “mark of personal style”. Every time I see her I think of you and how you’d probably like to snatch that bad boy off her head and toss it in the POUBELLE. Tee hee!

P.P.S. You made me smile with your b-day wishes. Who loves ya, B-M???

    xoxo,B

  9. I’ve seen this in the DC area–mostly on garbage trucks. Figured the garbage men found them in the trash and rescued them.

  10. I couldn’t get into the site, it said it’s been suspended…that’s my life story: a day late & a dollar short. But…

The strangest thing I’ve ever seen was a 6 foot plastic rooster strapped to the roof of a cadillac sedan, the two elderly occupants of the car dressed in high style and glitter, rolling through town with a gleam in their eyes…they’d just bought the mascot of the “Beef & Bird” restaurant and knew they had a real prize.

  11. They look like a bad case of road kill.

In Michigan, the new car bling is to tie a full size deer to the hood or roof of the vehicle. What’s up with that?
