  Monday Morning Mirth

I was going through my picture files this weekend and came upon this really lovely CAKE in my archive!

what.jpg

Yes! CAKE!

It is Pound Cake shaped to look like a hot dog bun and covered with TAN frosting. A faux Hot Dog made from BURGUNDY (!!!) frosting – yes, my friends, 100% frosting Dog – and then the trimmings were a combination of frosting drizzles in spectacularly realistic colors of mustard & ketchup, and the fixin’s were some kind of gumdrop stuff chopped up to look like onions, pickles, etc. FANTASTIQUE!

CHEERS! to whoever was the first person to make a cake in the shape of something else — wonder what it could’ve been? Tree? Flower? Crown? In the tiny days, I was always excited when my Moms made dinosaur pancakes — wonder if those folks did the same???

  1. This is incredible. I go between ewww thinking of a hotdog cake because it just looks so much like a hotdog and then wow because it really is incredible! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love having fun with cakes – a while back I made cupcakes that looked like sliders: vanilla “buns”, chocolate “meat”, red icing “ketchup”, yellow icing “mustard” and green coconut “lettuce”. These things really aren’t hard to do, and are such a hit when you serve them. That hot dog is AWESOME!
