Socktacus Interruptus August 3, 2010

In a bold attempt to shovel myself out of denial, the thinning of the herd continues at Chez Chic.

De-cluttering is starting to be quite amusing. Witness this pile:
socks-9742

Here ia a load of half-finished, slightly started wardrobe or sample items that have stalled for one reason or another:
– Temperture: can’t stand the feel of wool on my sweaty palms.
– Boredom: what was I thinking?
– Inertia: other projects had a louder siren song (or deadline).
– Lameness: what me slack?
– Contempt: No hella way in that colorway.

Now comes the fun part: Frog or not Frog!

Each in turn has its merits; each in turn is totally rejectable just by virtue of pulling that string to de-evolve the entire piece.

Why frog/no frog the lovely navy/evergreen piece on the far left? Well, it’s actually a pretty good beginning sample of an unreleased design, one that’s been tweaked a boatload of times, so maybe I should record it in a picture for posterity and Let It Go!

Indeed. One down, 8 to go.

Second from Left: well looks like this one hit the skids rather cruelly. It is missing a needle, which I suspect is lurking in

Third from the Left: a better example of the first froggy above. This one is the Cover Girl, for sure. Keeper.

Light Blue Center Front: another lame prototype (as in #1), even lamer, because I’ve lost a fully completed sock that might make this worth finishing, If Only I Could Remember What the Pattern Is because I didn’t write it down in the early flush of romance. Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Maybe, if the other sock shows up in a couple of days (I’m dedicated to digging this week), I will spare it from a trip to the pond.

Lovely Yellow KSD yarn that is also missing a partial starter sock. Where the heck have I been putting things? This is a six-room apartment. You can run but you can’t hide…

Far Right Front: orangey variegated hemp/wool blend. This one jumped into the mobile knit bag with me this morning. I love the stitch pattern on this one. Just de-constructed it (started writing the pattern but did not write the stitch pattern out) from the sock into a graph. THIS. Would look fab in a sweater. :)

more to come

  1. Bring it on Bonne Marie! I still use the discontinued sock pattern you released (Sock Love?) and it is sock love!

  2. “Hi, I’m Rosemary, and I am an addict.” I have over 20 balls of sock yarn and so I have been knitting socks all summer. I am going crazy. I broke a 0 sock needle yesterday and was in such a state that I sent an email to the needle company. I need a sponsor, I need a cigarette (and I don’t smoke) and I need a drink ( i do drink). Your post helped me to hang in there and continue. Thank you. You can be my sponsor. I need to finish these socks, so I can start on one of your beautiful new patterns. I must leave now and have a wee single malt.
