unbelievable what two stitches will do
together in close proximity…

For someone who’s most exciting, mystical moment in knitting is the Turning of the Heel, the little piece of fabric you see above is like Gas on the BonneFire of the Imagination.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH……………………………..

Flame ON!

This is a Collar.

A shawl collar.

Designed by the genius that is Debbie Bliss, from her Simply Soft book, it is one of the craftiest constructions I’ve ever attempted. Deceptively simple; beautifully curved.

Alas, only half-done but it just flies by so with any luck at all, I should have Lift0ff shortly. I was tempted to stay up all night working on this – have you ever done that – so enticing…

TGIF!

  1. Beautiful! I can see a loooooooooong (or it would be in my case) weekend of knitting ahead. Too bad you can’t whip this out on Ye Ole Knitting Machine!

  2. AHH – that’s the beauty of the Fusion project that this is…

The body and sleeves were knitted on ye olde machine.

The collar, the exquisite finishing touch, is crafted by hand…

  3. You are a speed queen! I love the color, and the curve–gorgeous!

One of these days I’d like to join your knitting group at Letizia’s. My DH has some sort of Programmer’s/User’s-Group-computer-pow-wow(geek fest) not far from there on the same evening. I’ll email you the next time it works out for me to come along.

  4. Oooo … so inspiring! And just as I was contemplating short-rowed shoulder shaping for this sweater …

  5. I’ll never forget my first heel turning…I couldn’t stop teeling everyone how amazing it was, and how fitted socks are a marvel of science. No one else seemed as excited as I was….

Isn’t it wonderful to recapture that feeling?

  6. Oh yes, the can’t-stop-knitting thing. I am knitting Hanne Falkenberg’s Mermaid and there’s miles and miles of garter stitch, but occasionally I make it to an interesting short row gusset, and then I don’t want to put it down. One, I fear I’ll lose my place or sense of where I am in the short rows, and Two, it’s just kind of addictive to watch an non-linear shape form. I occasionally look back at it and think “wow, I can’t believe I knit that.”

So anyway, I’m getting a lot of BBC-watching in. Robson Green. Yum.
