TickTock…
OK. The world’s gone mad.
Even more than ususal.
It’s Thursday and I’ve just received an avalanche of email – most of it from Friday through the weekend. What gives with AWOL email? No explanation from my ISP, of course. No Clue. From their lovely desk in New Delhi, they could offer no insight other than to tell me what the weather was when I mentioned it was “…overcast in Chicago, how about you?” The answer: “…it’s dark – can’t tell.”
Someone a couple of doors down is outside in their yard with their chain saw, busting a move. It is 7:30 am as I write this. Not user friendly to rip it up. Generally, people don’t SOUNDup until around 9 – I believe that’s usually the case when there are not milkcows to attend.
Hmmm.
Possibly, my nerves are more finely tuned than usual, too. Yesterday, while out driving in heavy traffic on the job, siren sound in the distance made me snap to the curb just as my truck came scarcely noseTOnose with a fleeing man behind the wheel of an old blue Chevy. It was going at least 70mph down the centerline of 71st St near Damen. Our eyes locked for a microsecond; his hands were seesaw-ing his steering wheel like a Cartoon Captain in a Gothic Gale. All I could do was hard exhale that deep held breath in my lungs as I watched two CPD cars fly-by in close pursuit.
I was a piece of pineapple suspended in lime jello, shaking.
[Turn the damn saw off.]
Ah, pass me my meds new sock. That’s better…

I can’t believe you haven’t gone over there to yell at that dumbass. A chainsaw??? Dang.
Take care chica and I hope your day gets a bit more relaxed.
Wasn’t there a movie like this :p
Dateline: Inner-City Chicago, woman with knitting needle in hand flies over fence and comes face-to-face with man wielding Chain Saw.
Upon seeing the Magic Loop in his face, he lays down the saw and offers to get her coffee, while apologizing profusely.
OK – it was more like this

Full moon time. This, too, shall pass. Hope you’re doing better, Miss B.
Indeed. No accosting ChainSawMan. Since my bet is that it is a man, not a woman.
WOW!! That was close. Here in NC they don’t know the meaning of pull over, it drives me batty that they block ambulances. The media has even tried to make it known that ‘hey people you need to pull over,’ but they still don’t get it. I am so glad you did that would have been awful if you didn’t. WOW!!! That was close.
I think the chainsaw is annoying, but the close call had to be unnerving. I love how you write about the streets of Chicago like I know. It’s incredibly charming. I know where Michigan St. is and that’s about it. Every time I get into Chicago, I feel like a deer in headlights.
maybe we’ll have to have cocktails @ tonight’s KIP instead of mint tea :)
Oh man, I feel that. No wonder you were shaking after that close call. And believe me, noise is nothing to sneeze at, it can really tear your nerves up big-time!
Well put! I have a next door neighbor who refuses to mow his lawn for weeks (now THATS attractive) then, when he does decide to mow, it’s 7am Saturday morning!
I feel your pain!
Crazy!!! But knitting on that sock will surely calm you down – it’s so pretty! Gotta love the Lorna’s Laces!
erk. My nerves would be shot, too … and stockingette in the round is a great prescription.
(I could have sworn that was LL Lakeview … has there been a name change?)
I think we have a full moon. Could explain the crazy!
Thank goodness you’re a knitter. All that fine tuning of your motor skills has also given you a quick reaction time.
Example 1: Darn, you dropped a stitch in that slippery yarn! Catch it quick, before the entire thing unravels.
Example 2: Whoa! That’s a police siren… Must pull over.
(Gravity of example 1 may have been exaggerated for unscientific purposes)
Glad you’ve got those quick reflexes. The world needs more Bonne Marie!
Thank goodness for mere inches. Whew!
Do something nice for yourself today….maybe a pedicure? Get your feet all purty for the new socks that are coming their way….
Sorry you had such a scary experience, but thankfully you were able to stop in time. Thanks for your sock pattern. Very handy for my Opal sock yarn!
