VOILA! Another wonderful look takes the runway at the Onde KnitAlong!
Jenny S, lookin good, writes: “I actually really like how it turned out, EXCEPT for the fact that it’s too big from the waist down and it rolls like mad at the bottom 2 inches. I thought I was being really smart by doing the first 5 rows in garter. But the pattern instructions say to go back and crochet a border. Doh! To make matters worse, I have no pink yarn left to do the crochet border. I tried it with the white, and it just looks bad.”
Hmmmmmm… A Little Remedial Onde Therapy is in order…
ChicKnits Solution #1: Knit a garter stitch *ribbon* out of the same yarn (I’d make it about one inch across or as wide as the original garter stitch hem) but knit the longways – ie. 8sts knit in garter stitch for 36″ or however long you need to go around, with the ribbon slightly stretched. It can be made of whatever color you have left, using the larger needle.
Then sew it to the inside of the bottom of the shell as a facing – this will stop the bottom from rolling….
These types of *Ribbons* are also good to cover the nasty Zipper Tape Effect and Neck Seam Blahs…

My very own *Tie et Dye* is half done! YIPPEEEEE!!
Here’s how the front/back piece looks completed.
I re-vamped the armholes and re-knit the sleeve cap. I used my trusty knitter’s graph paper and made a new sleeve cap that was better fitting than my first interpretation of the original. Dig those belled sleeves! You can also see the knit-in quasi button band where Snap Tape is going to be sewn.
Wow – all those Ondes! I really need to pull out my Onde tunic and finish off the 2nd piece.
I just pre-ordered my Onde…I can’t wait!

So then do you just graft the two halves up the back? Eeeek! Necessitating good sewing skills! :) I love the Onde look – pretty pretty!
Yes! I will mattress stitch the back seam after a thorough blocking with water & steaming out the ribs…

Rhubarb may be a mid-west thing. When we lived in Glenview, IL and grandparents lived in Indiana, there was rhubarb pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, stewed rhubarb(like apple sauce-yummy), and jam. Oh, how I miss it all now that I am in Florida

It always reminded me of celery in the stalks and the leaves look VERY TROPICAL!!!
Maybe a buddy or relative could bring you some if you have a garden…
I moved to Washington State from Iowa and we have rhubarb here; but I’ve never seen anyone here eat the raw stalks dipped in sugar like we did back in the midwest.
“Is Rhubarb a Michigan thing?” I don’t think it’s a Michigan thing as much as I do a Northern. I’m from Indiana, transplanted in Texas. Ruhbarb will not grow in TX very well so not many Texans know about it. I love Rub and Strawb. pie !!! YUM
Rhubarb is also a Canadian thing! I’ve lived in Manitoba and Ontario – and I expect it is popular in Saskatchewan, and Alberta as well.
And when I was a kid in Manitoba we did the dipping-the-stalk-in-sugar thing.
Mmmmm, rhubarb, I love rhubarb sauce spooned over vanilla ice cream. It’s definately an Upstate NY thing as well. My mom makes incredible strawberry rhubard custard pie.
I am seriously thinking about jumping in on this onde wave. Maybe the orange.
Rhubarb is known out here in California (at least in my family) but both of my mother’s parents were Midwest transplants – Ohio and Indiana – so that may explain it.
I’m eyeing all the Ondes enviously. I wish I had the extra change for the yarn and the pattern! *sigh*

I know how to make strawberry-rhubarb pie (because all of us Canadians love rhubarb, dontcha know), but I need to know about this sour cream glaze before I drool on my keyboard too much!! Pleeeaaase!
