Yesterday, while shooting pictures of the twin demons ASPHALT/CONCRETE (oh yeah, talk about yer basic Heat Sponges), my face turned beet red. OVERLOAD! Red Alert! I have drank (grammar?) so much water in the last 24 hours it is insane (but necessary).

Here is my little Ribby Pulli, made from ggh Bali (I love this stuff) in the color Kahki. I am almost up to the armscye bind offs. It is light and lovely – but if ever, oh ever, I’ve been glared at on the bus for knitting, now is the time. Fascinated glares, however.

Knitting doesn’t appear to stop for me in the Summer. I just keep right on. At the moment I’m knitting some socks, a fair isle sweater for my daughter, a lace shawl, a Harry Potter scarf, and a lace scarf for my Grandmother.
Thank goodness for airconditioning.
Hey Bonne, I’ve been employing the knitting machines in this weather, hot here in California too! And no AC to boot! I’ve been designing and knitting up some summer cardi’s out of some SilkCity Cotton, called softball. They have come out pretty sweet. I have been finishing them with a little crochet. I’m teaching myself how to use the hook, swore I would never wear anything made out of crochet, but I have changed that tune. Love cotton yarn, and even more some of the blends with acrylic to lighten them up some.
Keep on knitting, I can’t wait to see what your this lastest one will turn out like…. a dream no doubt.

I don’t let the heat dictate what I knit – just happens that these two projects are on the light side BUT! I am totally grateful for our air conditioning. Totally.
Believe it not I knit with wool yesterday and in heat that suggests the devil is multitasking and holding torch in the other hand over Brooklyn. I got the fever to make the felted bowl from One skein and I whipped it out before I could give myself friction burns on my fingers.

I’m knitting a cotton baby blanket, and some wool socks — small enough not to have a pile of wool in my lap. I’ve also been doing some sewing. We too have air conditioning, but we try not to use it unless it is brutally hot (you know, save energy, save the planet, etc.). Tonight, we will definitely be using it!!
I’m knitting a tank top in a cashmere blend – will probably be too heavy for the height of summer. About the GGH Bali – won’t the acrylic content make it too hot for summer too?

I’m working on Pirate Mittens for my very obsessed 5 year old’s birthday this fall. They’re small, so they don’t increase my heat factor. I’ve put my cashmere blend Hoodie on hold until the heat wave is over.

Socks! and small items! My trick is to wet all my clothes and hair and sit in front of my floor fan with my ceiling fans going. Not perfect, but don’t feel like shelling out big bucks for 4 weeks of hot hot da&*M: hot!
Knitting definitely does not stop in the summer – and silly me, I am knitting with wool right now – socks and sweaters!

“I’m melting….” here, too, in Colorado! I’ve been wondering if it’s just age but feel all washed out even basking in the glorious, decadent bliss of A/C turned all the way down to 75. I hope it’s better where you are soon – it’s a lovely 83 forecast today after 100’s or near for several days. Knitting with any GGH yarns seems like therapy for an OD on hot weather – My fav, too!

I’m actually not knitting but crocheting the Sweet Pea Shawl, until I realized I made a huge mistake (forgot one entire shell pattern), and frogged back three rows, and then hid it under a pile of magazines by my bed, using the heat as an excuse not to touch it.
I’m knitting the Sassy Ruffled Skirt from Creative Knitting out of Karabella Breeze (completely drool worthy) in a dark teal color.
Lace and socks…the former being light enough not to be a sweltering lump on my lap, and the latter being small enough that none of the knitting need touch me and make me melt. Too damn hot.
My first Faroese shawl. Using, yes, wool. But it’s lightweight, fluffy, and still small enough to not sit on my lap.
And I’m incredibly grateful for A/C.
Even more so now that I found out why the laboratory was so hot at work yesterday: the baseboard heat was on!!! In the heatwave. Loverly.

I have been knitting with wool. In fact, I just finished a shawl in bulky wool/cotton (I don’t know if everyone has a project like this, but it was the first project I saw that made me want to learn to knit, and years later, I made it in a couple of weeks). I need to work on some socks, those are tolerable in all kinds of weather. The pulli looks great–will have to put the Bali on my list of yarns to check out.
Silk/alpaca laceweight, fish mittens, and some cabled mittens in a wool/hemp blend. Mittens of my own design.
I have scads of lovely wool that I don’t even want to pet because it is so damn hot!

I am outside,in the 90 deg. shade,knitting on a leaf lace shawl from the Lavish Lace book. I’m using some vintage English sock wool (10! skein thrift shop score) the likes of which they don’t make anymore. The color is grass green, drop it on the lawn and it’s lost. But the thing I like most is the name of the yarn–Fernie.
I too am working on a ribbi-but in wool, just the sleeves and collar left. I want to make one in cotton too-will have to check out this yarn!! also working on a couple of purses-felted, and a tank top or two. Plus just lots of thinking about the projects I want to do! It’s sooo hard to be motivated in this heat!

Believe it or not, Tubey! It’s so cold in my office and at various places in the building, that I am able to work on Tubey and give myself a bit of relief from the frosty (AC) air.

I’m really working on my son’s raglan pullover in Plymouth Encore Chunky. He’s joining the Navy soon and wants the sweater to remind him of home. Of course, the central air is on and the lights are all off, so it’s pretty pleasant.
There must be some serious Knitting-Zen going on out there for people to be knitting with wool. I’m working on a cardi out of Mississippi to go with a sleeveless top I made and even that is tough because my hands seem to sweat so much. I’m going to have to wash this when it’s all over for sure. I went outside at lunch and thought the aliens had gotten my brains – the heat made me actually start tearing up. Accuweather says the “real feel” thing is 110F – I certainly believe it.

Your sweater is just beautiful. I am working on a tote bag using Cotton Glace. It’s the first time I’ve used this yarn, and I really like the stitch definition. I’m not a huge cotton fan, but this cotton is making me see the light!
Hot…yep it surely is that. I only have a/c in a few select rooms in my house. The rest of the house is an oven. I have not been knitting much at all but when I do it is socks and swatches for the TGKA course. Mostly I have just been sweating.
I’m up to the armhole bindoffs on my Cece in cream merino dk, after finishing up the Cutaway last week in a lovely dark blue. Great patterns! And when it’s tolerable in the shade on my deck (not so the last coupla days) I’m doing the sock thing, toe up, since I’ve become totally addicted to Wendy Johnson’s pattern. I will be one stylish teacher in my new sweaters and socks come fall and winter. Please, come, fall and winter!
Since you asked…I just finished your ribby shell (loved pattern, made bad yarn choice) and am on my second cast-on for CeCe in Cascade Sierra (cotton/wool), after frogging five inches because I wasn’t crazy about the resulting fabric. I think I stuck my landing this time after going up a needle size. It will be my last summerish thang before I start thinking of winter stitches. Although I’m hoping a Brown Cece will get me well into autumn.

Bonne, 96 degrees here – the heavy wool cardigan on deck was scuttled in favor of an airy stole, “Lily of the Valley” from some Zephyr in “Cassis” (mid-pink). Just finished the provisional cast-on. Whoooop! Here we go!

I’m finishing up the roundabout leaf tank from Knitting Nature, in a nice cool Tussah silk. Though our temperatures are finally cooling off a bit – year after year I’m inevitably surprised by how early in August the evenings start to get cool, even as the days stay hot.
