BEHOLD! The power of the knitted dinosaur!

This little buddy made me laugh so hard I cried! He was fashioned by Mary, using the talented Jenn’s pattern and is just missing his chubby legs…

This portrait was taken at our KIP last week where even in spite of rampaging temperature, several brave souls met to trip the needles fantastic!

Kandy, who hails from Arkansas, was in Chicago on business, and stopped by for a little rockin’ fun – she was wearing a very sophisticated knitted ensemble that was to die for. So much fun to visit and knit – at the end of the evening, what a wonderful treat to have made a new friend!

More knitterly get togethers!

HABU Textiles, in town for Stitches Midwest, made a guest trunk show appearance at Nina’s on Division.

Even the duck soup temperatures didn’t deter Theresa & I from exploring the fabulous fibers of Habu – I came away with a couple of very intriguing scarf kits. One is called Kushu Kushu and is a pairing of fine gauge merino and something so intriguing you have to see it to believe it – silk stainless. This will be a scarf with a center wool section bordered by gossamer rippling metal silk – gorgeous!

Meeting Takako Ikejiri was delightful! Her designs and vision are modern, clean and very inspiring. Everytime I see these yarns in person, I fall more in love with the subtle, neutral shades Takao has put together in the collection.

  1. I just bought a kusha kusha kit when I was in Austin a month ago. It’s a really neat kit. You’ll have fun with that one!

  2. I won a whole bunch of Habu yarns for a song at my guilds aution a few months ago. It’s mostly lace and really really nice.

I plan to make that little dinosaur someday too. It’s so cute!

  3. That dino on a bottle is the funniest thing I’ll see on the knitblogs this month. I don’t know about you, but he looks happy legless and perched on a bottle.

I am intrigued by that silk stainless you mentioned. I hope you don’t wait to knit it up too quickly; I’m looking forward to hearing what you think about it. Habu Textiles are double your fun: they make their own textiles AND are designers. Smart and creative.

  4. OMG, I thought it was a knitted conch shell at first until I saw the eyes…..have pitty, make him mobile. Pink dinasour, he’s cute.

  5. Hi Bonne Marie,
I would email you except for some reason the server I’m on up here in Rockford won’t let me send email. Argh. It would be so much fun to meet you, although finding you at Stitches is unlikely. Vicki at LoopyYarn at 719 S. State St is having an open house Friday night at her store for Stitches attendees and emailed me directions on how to get to the store on the metro trains. We’re thinking of coming into the city for that, then maybe beer and pizza out after. if you’re up for it and want to contact me, email me your cell phone # and I’ll give you a call – I can receive email, just can’t send it and am not posting my phone # here. ;)
And now I just have to get to the Habu booth to see that yarn. I’ve seen stainless woven into yard goods, and seen knitting and crochet with wire…but silk and stainless is new to me.
and poor dina (or is it dinoette) needs legs.

  6. I didn’t really think about poor Steggie as sans-leggies — I pledge to get him on his feet ASAP! I cannot wait to see the silk stainless in action. That’s so wild.

  7. The stainless steel silk yarn is great stuff. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. Must brag here – my workplace is only 2 1/2 blocks from Habu! I’m so luckeeeee!

  8. I was at the computer store last night checking out the new macbook and was cruising blogs, when I found this post. I was so excited and tickled, that I tracked down Hubs from across the store to show him our pic – your’s turned out great. He thinks I’m nuts – haha.
