spinkip.jpg

and now for something [completely] different

Certain things happen when you take your knitting on the road. As you grab your bag when you’re heading out the door, you’ll notice that your working yarn ball is probably down to a couple of yards. After you’re done swearing, you race to wind some more because the Sport will not let you leave without doing so.

I swear to god. I had to go to the Swift before I went to the Bus.

Luckily, I found a pretty good horizontal perch for this birch baby and it is much faster, IMHO, than using it vertical. [Pay no attention to the ginourmous piles of stash in the background – where the hella did all that blue come from?!]

  1. Hey Bonne, quite a stash you have there, I was wondering when we would get a gander at the loot you had on hand. I finally had the courage to put my entire stash in one room, my husband visably cringed, as did I. I had no idea I had amassed that much yarn.

BTW, my eyes are a lovely blue….

  2. B. Marie, this is not a slam, but when I first saw the picture I thought you’d taken your swift with you to a yarn store. I admire you for having an organized stash, as opposed to my “stealthy” (vbg) bags and boxes approach.

  3. Hmmmm. I’m forwarding this stash picture to my spouse so he realizes I’m not crazy. I’m just fine, thank you very much!

  4. Yowza–I thought this photo was taken at a yarn store ’til I read the rest of the blog. Makes me wonder what my stash would look like all in one place….

  6. Yup, that’s a lotta yarn and it all looks gorgeous! I’ve found that turning the swift horizontal keeps the swift turning better for me too and it slips less on my table than when I turn it horizontal and adhere it to my chair! Hope your mom had a great day and enjoyed her package! That was mighty sweet of you to send the sock yarn goody package. I’m sure she was thrilled to receive it.

  7. Is that really your Stash?!? I thought it was a yarn shop until I read the text below the photo. I am blue/green/purple with envy and guilty of coveting “thy neighbor’s” stash.

  8. Wow. Your stash is making me feel better about my stash – except for the organization aspect.

Not that I was looking at your stash. I was looking at the swift… Yeah

(we have an old table that has no logical place to go in our home that I won’t get rid of because it’s the only thing I can clamp my swift onto.)

  9. Bonne Marie — I think you have achieved that shopping-Zen experience where stash meets retail. I recently made myself a promise that all shopping trips would be to my fabric and yarn stashes rather than to the store..because frankly, I just ran out of space. All my stashes are now in residence out in the barn. In huge, color-coded, “do not pile higher than four high” plastic courtesy-of-Rubbermaid bins. But out in the barn. So, I really do have to “go shopping” in order to do a project now.
    Carry on!!

  10. What’s wrong with these people? Looks like you’ve got room for a little more to me. And by the way, I looked right through that swift on the first glance, but nice swift anyway!

  11. Whawt? This isn’t n.o.r.m.a.l?

I just went and measured it – 6 ft by 8 ft. WOOT. Lots of stuff in there – for samples, for clothing, for gifting, to be stashed-out on eBay – someday some of that background could be living in a room of your own! Incoming!

  12. I thought I was looking at a picture of a yarn shop at first! Mmmm, happy home :-) . . .snug & well-insulated, eh?

  13. I hadn’t thought of using my swift sideways. hmm. Lovely Stash. My dh needs to see some pics like yours so that he realizes I’m not the only one in the world with a yarn store in the house.

  14. I too thought I was looking at a yarn shop. Nice display work there, you’re putting my huge tupperware seethrough crates in the garage to shame.

  15. I know I’m not the only one chuckling at the picture of you winding that ball up quickly. I bet the swift was a blur.

My yarn stuffed unceremoniously under the bed is envious of your pretty yarn display on the wall. Man, I’ve so got to copy you and do the same!

  16. Um, that’s your stash? Holly hell! I thought it was a yarn shop. (sniffs, sigh)

We Canadian folk don’t git what ya’ll southern peoples git and it gits cold up here!
