Earlier today, I thought it ironic that on the first day of summer, and one of the hottest days of the year, I was fooling around with w.o.o.l.

But who could blame me?

Sometimes, the knitting (and the fiber) just bypass all those silly calendar rules.

I have to confess, that it makes me feel almost naughty to touch the wool with the AC on. Decadent even.

But that’s how we roll here at Chez Chic, and who’s going to be smiling when the evenings turn cool before long? Moi. In my new threads, wool threads. (And here’s what IS ironic: as if we EVER have to ask ourselves where’s a sweater around here to throw on at any time to begin with, here at the house that’s bulging at the seams with sweaters – especially since we’ve gotten as far as the living room to unpack the TNNA samples…)

I would be a liar if I did not declare that the only sweater I want to wear is the one that is 2/3rds done.

All it needs is sleeves! And these are already on the needle, from the am when this pic was taken, speeding right along.

I have to say I’m slightly obsessed with top-down set-in sleeves, which this one has. And there’s no shame here, because one of the primary reasons I’m so enthralled by knitting itself is that there is Always Something New to Learn.

So, in addition to this style, which is a 100% written pattern, I’ve been winging it on another, one with even more shaped sleeves.

I started it this weekend using some stash yarn (cotton, nylon, acrylic) that is DK weight. It’s turning out to be a very traditionally designed cardigan – just like a pieced one – but with no seams. Anywhere. I’ve been studying all the techniques out there and it is really quite amazing.

But I’m riffing and tweaking and in the process learning some new moves. The needles just fly!
