  Monday Morning Mirth

voguefinger.jpg

Some Observations

1 – my co-worker says licker should be served up two-fingers high but not magazines – dude it’s 754 pages long

2 – Kate Moss is in every ad (except for A.J. for St. J) – when DOES this girl find time to partay?

3 – beyond the Pear – turn to page 405 for an intriguingly bizarre redefinition of fashion silhouettes

Which one are you?
the Exclamation Point
the X
the Shrink Fit
the Triangle
the Hourglass
the Popsicle
None of the above, I shop at the Gap

  1. I don’t have this magazine so I’m not sure what shape they are talking about, but really, the popsicle? Gap or Old Navy all the way for me.

  2. Many years ago (BK = Before Kids) I was a nice roundy hourglass. Now that hourglass resembles a lumpy pillar. I’m thinking Vogue doesn’t really care much about me anymore, right? Well, screw ’em, I say! Life is about more than one’s shape, as we all (except the pencil-thin models) know.

  4. Back when I had no self confidence and thought my stick thin, small busted figure was a handicap, I dressed in leggings or slim jeans with tunic length voluminous bulky sweaters. 15 years and 2 kids later, I have curves and confidence, and I’m not about to go back, no matter what the runways say! I’m a Gap girl all the way, with a selection of my own designs on top. Though I must admit, I’m thinking of a longish, figure skimming Aran about now…

  5. RE: Kate Moss, the workaholic…I want to “crack” a joke about whistling while you work + “you just put your lips together and BLOW” but my brain just isn’t there yet. :P

I stopped getting the spring and fall huge-o zines because they’re mostly ads. :/

  6. My mother was a tailor/seamstress and I grew up reading Vogue. (Wish I still had some of those magazines from the early 60s…)
The Fall Vogue was always my favourite because it was huge.
These days? All I can think about is the 17 year old Photoshopped twigs wearing clothes that who would wear on the street anyways!?
Between that in the fact that this magazine is probaboy 90% ads and 10% any real content, keeps me away.

  7. I am the hourglass, but only in real life. I saw the girl they claim is an hourglass… I hope you don’t really have to have a Scarlett O’Hara 17″ waist to be an hourglass, because in that case, I’m nearly two hourglasses.

  8. Hey I just saw Ariann and love love love it!!! It is going on my wish list for the upcoming secret pal (my first time) :)

  9. Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette has been everywhere in the popular fashion press. Like we’re all going to don powdered wigs and panier hoops.

  10. I’ve done my bit of the Marie Antoinette rage. I saw the PBS documentary and I read Camille Paglia’s essay. Will this get me to see Sofia’s movie? Advertisement overload tends to me turn me off. As for fashion shilouette – who knows? As long as the jeans fit!

  11. I loved the stylings of the X! I think it’s probably the best option for the hourglass-cum-pear shape that I have. And Ariann is gorgeous!

  12. Good old Vague Magazine. I stopped buying it when I realized that there was very little in it that I want to wear even if I *were* shaped like the models. Of course, I remember the days when the models were thin, but still human rather than praying mantis’.

I would classify myself as the “As long as it’s comfortable and paint pr play doh will wash out of it”.

  13. Hi! Really enjoy your blog! I think the triangle is the gentler, kinder name for my apple shape which developed after I became 50. Did they include an age range on these body shapes?? ;)

    :)
