New Sleeve Thursday
*******************************************

Following the Muse into the Dark Side, I worried myself into a nub over nothing. QUE? All the hand wringing I was doing about flat vs. circular sleeve knitting was for naught. The Sleeve insisted on being knit with 2 circular needles. #1 is an FO.

It resisted all attempts with a long circular for the Magic Loop – even with a nice flexible cable, the size of the cable at larger needle diameters also increases. So it was just fighting me everytime I finished a size and pulled the next end through for knitting the next side. [Read more about knitting small diameters with one needle here]

I finally went with 2 – 24″ circulars and after the first inch (always trixsie on any project) it went smooth as silk.

  1. You are so rolling on that. I cast on for my number 2 chocolate sleeve today and am already a few inches into it. The Calmer is a great choice for this yarn; it makes my joins look so neat so I feel like a nifty knitter. Hehe.

  2. It’s lovely. I’ve always preferred the two circ method on socks and sleeves to the magic loop. Easier to avoid the ladders.

  3. Love your articulated mannequin! She is so beautiful – golden and glowing.

So does this mean you’ll add notes to future patterns to adjust for the 2-circ sleevies?

  4. The Beauty is: no additonal directions are needed!

Knitting with two circular needles is just a way to knit something in-the-round, like you’d knit a tube with double points.

I picked from three in-the-round options: DPNs or one long needle (magic loop) or two circular needles.

All give the same end result: pretty sleeves :)

  5. I love knitting tubes with two circulars! Works for any diameter. I tried Magic Loop once and ended up with a really kinked cable. I am going to start two Cece sleeves on 2 circulars this weekend! Weeee!

  6. I love the wooden drawers in the background.
It reminds me of the old antique dentist cabinet I once found in an antique store while visiting my In Laws in North Dakota. I wanted it so badly. Me thinks I will eventually have to have one and it will hold all my prized wordly button and bead collections. I remember the little “secret cabinet” that would hold the drugs used in dentistry. I don’t know why that really fascinated me but it did.
