After a few cooling hours inside after a brutal day working outside, my brain was ready to continue with the Sleeve.
Picking up where we left off this weekend, voila! It’s actually happening!
Even after the last progress photos, I was skeptical that this was going to work, or at least work like I need it to work.
But I kept on taking in one more stitch at each end at a time and before I knew it, it was time to join.
Dare I say I was giddy?
I will anyways, being amongst friends… ;p
Not since my first Turning of the Heel has anything filled me with such wonder!
But it is imperfect.
I was almost tempted to rip it out and start over — the top of the cap is a little narrow. It took a turn up on the mannie and one on me with a three-way mirror, to make me decide to continue this round, and take notes for the Next Time.
Having a 3-way mirror is essential when you’re trying on clothes. We’ve all been shopping and one of the most important steps in the decision making process is checking out the fit using that tool. For those of us who like to shop with pals, they can also offer some perspective you might miss. Your knitwear is no exception!
Nobody has eyes in the back of their head! Realizing we spend the greater part of our lives looking forward, (“the normal human visual field extends to approximately 60° nasally (toward the nose, or inward) from the vertical meridian in each eye, to 100° temporally (away from the nose, or outwards) from the vertical meridian, and approximately 60° above and 75° below the horizontal meridian), means that there’s about 80% of your garment that you do not see.
My friends, it could be doing anything back there, and I for one want to see what’s going on!!
And seeing it from 360°, I had to give it a thumbs up. (click pic for larger view)
The flexibility of the knitting is controlled by the shape of the body in this instance, so not being perfect is not such a big deal.
Isn’t that a good thing? Who and what is ever perfect — certainly not my knitting. Even after years (and years, whew), I still make the same basic mistakes that a beginner does.
After all, if I measured my armhole correctly in the first place, I wouldn’t be fussing about it now! ;p
And just remember, you’ll never see yourself leaving the room…
You are too funny! You’re right, a 3 way mirror setup is essential! I still think you are perfect.
i’m getting excited about this design and this technique….it’s looking great. Thanks for the laugh about our wonderful and ever growing and changing bodies!!!
