Monday Morning Mirth

Whoa! If it seems like I’ve dropped off the planet – well, it’s more like I’ve been dropped into coding!

The last week or so I’ve been giving the website an overhaul (not quite done) and I couldn’t be having more fun, even though it’s taken a lot of time and a couple of visits to the School of Hard Knocks to get going…

If you’d like to Help a Geek Grrl out, try out this series of pictures from the new catalog pages. Swipe the row to see if something interesting happens (and tell me what you see)…

Bonus points for finding some new ideas! ;p

We’ve tested this in a couple of browsers but would love your input — pictures take a moment or so to load…

  1. I think you have new designs coming out, one called Derica Kane, and another one called Velynda – both very cute!

  2. The larger views of photos 3 and 4 are not the same photos…still lovely, but not larger views of the smaller photos you have displayed. Photos 1, 2, and 5, however, work just fine.

  3. OK, when I roll over pictures 1 and 5, I get the proper blowup. When I rollover picture 2, I get the blowup of picture 3! When I rollover picture 3, I get the beautiful Derica Kane and and when I roll over pictue 4, I get a blowup of Velynda! BTW, I’m using firefox…
Don’t worry, these things always have wrinkles…

  4. Once I told NoScript to let your scripts run, I got the enlarged pictures, but not all of them matched the thumbails (latest Firefox).

  5. Pretty sneak previews on pics 3&4, using Droid Google OS. Plus a reminder that I always wanted to knit Aleita and/or Sandrine!

  6. Thanks for the sneak peak (at least I think that was the intended outcome) – enlargement works fine on IE7 & 8

  7. I have the latest version of Firefox and had the same experience as one of the other posters – rolling over all of them gives a larger version, but the new designs under numbers 3 and 4 aren’t the same! Love that new Dericka Kane especially!

  8. 4 of the 5 pictures blow up large when I mouse over them.
The 2nd from the right has a thumbnail of a standing woman in a mini.
When I mouse over that, I get a different picture, of a model sitting
in jeans, boots and a cardigan.

    What’s up with that?
FWIW, I am using Firefox on a PC.

  9. Hmmm- I’m using firefox too (don’t know what version) but a big fat nuttin happens when I roll over the pics.

  10. I am using Chrome (version 13.0.782.112m), and I am getting incorrect large versions as well, or at least, I am not getting the user experience I would expect.

The other thing I would ‘expect’ is clicking on the thumbnail pictures would take me to your online catalog of patterns. :) Sometimes the bug is in the user expectation, not the functionality. Yeah, I have worked as a software tester…

  11. Running Safari 5.1 on a MacBook. I can’t see the full height of the pictures of the thumbnail and the larger picture at the same time. Have to choose one or the other or have both cropped if I want both in the frame at the same time.

    Love the feature.

  12. Ditto to the above comments. I have the most recent of Firefox and #3 and #4 are not the same pictures as the thumbnails.

  13. I have an older version of Internet Explorer and have the same things happen as all the above…….

  14. I’m using a reader (NetNewsWire), and pictures 3 & 4 do not correspond to their thumbnails.

  15. Viewing on most recent Firefox on my MAC; pics #3 & #4 are Derica Kane and Velynda not what the thumbnails say. I thought I knew all your “girls”…are these new?

  16. I got the sneak peek in Firefox. Everyone I’ve “talked” to virtually since the designs first appeared is absolutely drooling over that shade of red…….we’re so anxious to know what that yarn is.

  17. Using Internet Explorer and having the same experience as Kathy McG… seems like a feature, not a bug, to pique our curiosity. Derika Kane is marvelous!

  18. Looks good. One small suggestion – add a preload so users don’t have to wait for the larger images to load.

ps – can’t wait for Derica Kane!

  19. I know what it feels like to fall off the face of the Earth! I’m getting back into knitting and I knew that a visit to your site would provide me with the inspiration I need to get back into the sweater groove! Love the new designs and your sneaky way of previewing some new designs. :-)
