I finally made it to the shop and found some interesting buttons that might work on my Ariann sweater…

I can’t make up my mind…

And with the amount of loose threads all over the place, you’d think something had come undone.

But no – it’s actually coming together!

A little felted bucket hat made it onto the scene as well – this one is made from Jamieson’s Soft Shetland. It is very dense – took quite awhile to *melt* into shape but I’m happy with how it turned out! The secret to bucket success? As it nears its final size, fish it out of the water, wring out the excess water and try it on Your Head over a little plastic shopping bag! If it’s the right size, rinse it and block. If it’s still a little big, pop it back in the Hot Water and felt away!

I’ve been trying a variety of yarns for these hats – my favorite is basic worsted wool (ala Cascade 220) – but there are so many temptations out there, omg – including my leftovers. I have lots of yarns that want to go ChaCha together as well. This cold snap is a great thing – makes wooly ideas pop up all over the place!

Time to go block Ariann…

  1. I like the middle one the best. Someday I hope you design a one button (buttons in the middle cardigan) so I can highlight one big fancy button.

  2. I like the top one best.

And did you know when we moved into this house and got these fancy new washers that I wasn’t thinking about felting and I CAN’T with this washer! It has no center agitator and it locks when you turn it on so you can’t just open it up. But it’s energy efficient… lol

  3. I like the one in the middle, it looks the most, “I’ve been on this sweater all my life.”-ish.
Yes, yes, I agree definitely time for more bucket hats. I think that is the most used ChicKnits pattern in my line up.

  4. Excellent idea for the plastic bag on the head!! I will do that – gotta get this pattern downloaded but I fear that I will want to start it right away and I have A LOT of Christmas knitting to do!!

  5. I like the top button, it’s interesting and it has enough oomph to hold its own on the sweater without clashing! They’re all pretty, though.

  6. oh your right all those buttons are nice, the middle one is nice and modern but the top one is more natural and warm looking, old skool stype.. hard to decide!! I want to see the FO so badly because I havn’t seen this on anyone yet that I really fell in love with (on the model of course it looked fab) but everyone I have seen knits it in white which I just don’t really like, so I am wanting to see yours finish and worn!! SUCH a pretty color yarn. Also can’t wait to see Cara’s (January One).

  7. I like the middle button for it’s clean simplicity. The bucket hat looks really cute. When you let it dry, to you place it over a bucket? :-)

  8. So, I’m on the El platform this morning and a passing train blows my hat off and onto the tracks. I’m really bummed and thinking that the Knitting Gods are getting revenge on me because it was a Store Bought Hat (yes, shameful, I know, but I really liked the hat). And I’m freezing my dupa off and thinking that I’m going to have to wrap my scarf babushka-style to keep warm. So I’m feeling cold and grumpy until…..I open up the RedEye and what do I see, but a prominent announcement for your trunk show at Arcadia on Sunday!!!! I so wish I could be there! Best of luck. PS. I’m gonna appease the Knitting Gods and make me another Bucket hat (using my treasured discontinued Blueberry Patons Classic Merino)

  9. Another vote for the middle button. I prefer the matte finish over the shinier on the other two. Also, it has a “fresher” look, meaning I don’t feel like I’ve seen it on a lot of other sweaters.

  11. Oh, I wanted to be original, but instead I’m part of the gang this time — the middle button is the one, I think, though none are “bad” —

  12. I cast my vote for the top button.
For some reason I find the 4-holes more appealing.
Plus I like the colour of the top one.
2nd choice would be the middle, though.

  13. Chez Chic is in full production mode!

I prefer the bottom button. It’s a little shiny/dressier which is a good match with the lace of Ariann. The brown buttons above it seem too casual. I hope to see you sporting Ariann soon.

  14. Just got the pattern the other day, and am thinking happy thoughts about starting one after the holidays are over. There are so many options… rustic and tweedy? Chic and solid-colored? It’s such a great pattern, it would look fantastic either way!

I like all the buttons. Sorry, no help here. ;-)

  15. Ooooh! Stylin’ bag on the head, Bonne Marie! I like the look. It’s new. It’s fresh. Now if only you could get Paris Hilton to wear one, it might start a trend! ;)

    Love the hat! :)

  16. Because I have not seen one yet, would you please let me know what you’d think of Ariann in black? Would her beautiful pattern show?
