home of the Player
Oh, it had to happen. There was just no way I was going to not go thrashing through the stash after that last post in search of Orange et Navy!
And what to my wondering eyes should appear? Not one, but 2 skeins of Cascade 220 in the colors I was lusting after! HA! The navy is #9449 (tagged for a bucket hat); the orange, gifted to me awhile back by my favorite muse, Edie, and is Color #Unknown. It’s just been biding its time because it is a luscious shade!
Mission: make a fine little hat that I can wear every day until February 5th! I have been eating, sleeping chasing da Bears on ye olde Day Job and wouldn’t it be just cheerful to fly those team colors?! I figured socks would take me forever – still might do it just for luck – and would actually not be visible AT ALL to celebrate in public the way a hat can…
I give you the Player:
=====================================
=====================================
Size: Medium (fits Women’s 21-22″)
Yarn: 110 yds each of two colors (C1 & C2) worsted weight yarn (220 yds total – yarn held double throughout)
Gauge: 14 sts / 18 rows over 4″ St st
Needles: #10.5/6.5mm 16″ or 20″ circular needles & Double Pts
Stripe Sequence: 6 rounds of each color 7 times.
[C1, C2, C1, C2, C1, C2, C1]
=====================================
Using C1 held double, cast on 76 sts and join to knit in the round. (Yarn is held doubled throughout.)
Round 1: [K3, P1] around.
Repeat this pattern, observing your stripe counts until 4 stripe sequences are completed. Work 2 rounds with C1.
Next Round: K2TOG; [K15, place marker] repeat around.
Decrease Round: [K to within 2 sts of marker, K2TOG] repeat around.
While continuing to observe your stripe count, repeat the above DEC round every round until 5 sts are left. (Switch to Dbl. Pts when uncomfortable to continue with Circs.)
Break yarn and weave through remaining sts. Weave in all ends.
GO BEARS!!!
…action shots coming soon…
I can’t believe I’m first! That said, awesome knit hat. Go Bears!
Woohoo! I love it!
So cute! Go Bears!!
I’ll be making a Bears poncho for a friend. I hope I can get it done in time for the Superbowl!
I think I need a Bears hat.
You absolutely rock, my dear.
can you knit in your sleep or something? the hat is awesome and you made it in no time flat. go bonne marie! go bears!
Bonnie,
So nice, so very, very nice. I think this weekend I will need to find myself some Blue and Orange as well. I am sure the whole city will be decking themselves out in the B&O between now and 2/5!
It’s the miracle of the stash – ask and it will appear! And what a great hat, especially with the k3, p1 rib. I remember when I discovered that ribbing did NOT have to have even numbers of paired knits and purls, one of those ‘aha’ knitting moments. It is also great, because it is a watch cap without the finicky decrease in pattern – love it. Can’t wait to see those action shots!
Bonne, you’re the BEARy best! Thank you!
great hat! go Bears!
i love it! i think everyone in my house will have one by Feb. 5th. thanks again, BM!!!!
cool hat!!
will you be following the beloved Bears down here to South Florida???
Daaaaaaaaa Bears
(I like your crown decreases)
It was 1 degree F with -20 on the windchill here this morning when I went to work. Just LOOKING at that hat makes me feel a lot warmer.
Go Bears!!!
Go BEARS!!! I love it! I must get yarn to make it! Thanks, Bonne!
Oh I LOVE that! Go Bears indeed!!!!
I’ll make one in my 49ers colors, maybe that’ll make them play better next season.
I’ve made my brother a couple of hats that I’ve never seen him wear. He’s a huge Bears fan, though, so I think we have a winner with this!
Thanks, b. Marie!
WHAT! That fab hat I saw awhile back and was so envious of is not perched on his noggin?
Maybe *the Player* will do the trick ;p
You know men & their sports…
Not unlike women and their yarn…
This Hat is a melding of the two!!!
Great pattern – now I have to make more! My kids wanted me to knit Bears gear for the SB – they swear it was my knitting the hat during the last game that gave the team good mojo. BTW I gave that hat away to a little boy at the party I was at – his parents were stunned I made it and gave it away in 3 hours!
GO BEARS!!!!
Just like that….You’re amazing! Thanks for sharing your “hattern” GO BEARS!!!
THANK YOU!!
I’m going to the game. I’ll have this made before my flight. But I doubt I will need it in Miami weather!
You are an extremely funny girl. I wonder whether anyone on the job will comment on your bearshead.
I love it! I’m going to make it in the same colors (well, maybe a darker navy) in cotton next fall if the Detroit Tigers get into the World Series again….
Whoot! Thanks! Gotta see this baby in action.
Hey – I’ve seen Miami folk wearing these kinds of hats year round – it’s F.A.S.H.I.O.N.
As a Colts fan, I am willing myself to see the hat in bright blue and white…GO COLTS…but the pattern is awesome and would look great in any color(s). Thank you so much!
