Chic Knits Patterns

This is a test, it’s only a test…

Here we have bravely attempted to photograph some blue yarn. I am on the verge of making a sample for a fall design and am in love with both these yarns. The trick is to see which one is more of a cover girl :)

On the Left: Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed in the color Boheme

On the Right: Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK in the color Smoke Blue

I love them both but only one gets on the runway. The Tweed is really calling to me but it just might not be very photogenic in the details in loRes web pictures. I can see how the nubs and color variations might make the picture look blurry even when it is actually sharp ;p

I purposely used my yuckiest camera to see how it fares.

Off to visit some more computers and check it out…

  1. I knit a cardigan last winter out of the Jo Sharp – in that very color! It works up beautifully! Very soft, but still plenty of “body” for a cardigan, yet suprisingly light weight. I’d go with the tweed – it has more of an autumnal feel!!

  2. The Cashmerino looks better on my MacBook screen. I think to wear, the tweed would be good, but to photograph, it might obscure details. I see I’m going against the grain here, but never mind!

  3. I’m no help – I want to see you use them together! I think the contrast would be fab.
(If forced, I’d say the Sublime.)

  4. Oh, sorry but you must do pattern swatches for us to truly see which one is the runway model! But both are lovely….

  5. My fingers are itching to knit with the skein on the left, but my eyes think the one on the right will photograph better.

  6. The tweed, the tweed! How many brands make a yarn like the sublime? So many but the Jo Sharp is really unique. Wait a second, that might be a really good argument for the other one. Scratch that. Pretend you never read it.

  7. I love the tweed, Bonne Marie! But I can see your concern about it possibly looking weird in lo-res pictures. Still, the tweed is luscious. Both colors are nice though. I love misty blue!

  8. I vote for the Sublime. All their merino blends are superb, and combined with the silk it’s a winner. But then, I am writing from the depths of Mordor, aka Florida.

  9. I instinctively like the tweed better, but when I take another look, I’m wondering if the new project is summer related or more fall/winterish?

If it’s fall/winterish, I’d go with the tweed. I think tweed works best for more cozy/warm items – it just invokes that “feel”.

If it’s summer, then I would go with the lighter blue because it’s more crisp, bright, light…summery!
