What happens when you’re in love with the colors of Lake Michigan? I daydream about it knitting this sweater. (Of course, it’s about 70 degrees warmer in my fantasy, it being almost zero degrees again this morning…)
This yarn has many shades of blue running throuhout the yarn lengths. Some heathers might have a contrasting or complimentary color carded in, but this one is all blue and natural.
It is also a little off. I was so excited about getting the Right Front almost finished. Then I took this picture and the Left Front is noticeably cooler in tone. Whoa. The natural base yarn is whiter and the others with a more yellow tone make the fabric skew slightly green. I didn’t notice this when I got the yarn, a mail delivery, just put it on the shelf. (It had no tags on any of the skeins.)
SO. When I finish this front (24 rows and counting) I am going to pop them both into a bath and see if it all comes out in the wash. [Probably not, but the only other choice is FROG POND and re-knit!]
When I was swatching for Cassidy way back in the R&D days, I made a *swatch* out of cotton to see if I’d like it. It turned up the other day in an apartment sweep for something else, so just for the heck of it, here they are side-by-side, cotton to the left. The Cotton one is made in a smaller size but the gauge holds up and so do the dimensions of the cabling.
I am very tempted to start one out of cotton when I finish the wool one — having a stash of Charcoal Cotton Ease (Hey Emily, got any black laying around I could poach?) I also stumbled upon while closeting some other stuff this weekend.
How about over-dyeing if washing doesn’t help? Granted the “heather” color won’t survive, but sure it would sure beat frogging all that lovely work.

Hah! I wish! I have one sweater out of black CE that I am considering frogging to reclaim the yarn since I don’t wear it, but nothing fresh in the skein. The charcoal is close though. Maybe we should start a petitition to bring back black?
Oh no about the color difference! Despite the trouble, I love seeing the cabley goodness. I’m working on my Cassidy right front too. Soon I’m on to the sleeves!
Ooh, how disappointing — but then again, you could sort the yarn into greenish and not-greenish, do the sleeves to match the fronts, do the back half-n-half, and call it a design feature.
oh man…is this all from the same dye lot? I must say your work is gorgeous.
it’s a bit of a bummer about the color. I love the left side…but my guess is if not to frog then to dye all of the pcs. once they are complete.

The skeins didn’t have any tags when they arrived and silly me, I didn’t think to scrutinize the skeins.
I’ll try washing then frogging. I’m sort of a perfectionist and it would make me happier to rip and re-do than to dye over because I REALLY like this color blue.
I can re-knit the left front and use the odd color for trim and hood or something.

Bummer about the color. But at least you noticed before finishing the knit and putting the sweater together. That’s what would have happened to me.
I, too, harbor a huge love affair with Lake Michigan. In fact, my Ravatar is a picture that my then-fiancee-now-husband took of me wading in the Lake when we made a last-minute jaunt there last summer. The sweater looks absolutely lovely, and, remember, the colors of the lake & sky shift too. It’s quite fitting, in my humble opinion.
