When Knitting gets Rudely Interrupted by an Elected Official

I’m so exhausted by the whirlwind PR hurricane going on over here, I’ve been barely able to pick up my stitches!

On Monday, our Governor, the esteemed G-Rod, went to New York City to plead his case to all of YOU, appearing on the View, GMA, and many other shows over 72 hours. How did he do? Do ya love ‘im more than yesterday? Did you want to ruffle his hair like Joy Behar? (Not me, who yesterday had to stand outside in 5 degree Chicago weather for 6 hours waiting for him to come outside and make a statement).

Today our governor goes down to the Capitol in Springfield and addresses the Senate Body, completely reversing his intention to not appear. Many hope he refrains from any more Cowboy explanations for his behavior.

Many think he’s more inline with his real hero, Elvis (who before his arrest was the ONLY mentor who he talked about and quoted constantly) who, as I recall, sort of skidded to a rather ingracious exit via a toilet bowl.

What a fantasy, Rod, dressed in a large-collared white polyester suit, speaking to the State Senate, maybe, just maybe, breaking into song — hmm, maybe, “Suspicious Minds”?!

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can’t you see
What you’re doing to me
When you don’t believe a word I say?

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?

Here we go again
Asking where I’ve been
You can’t see these tears are real
I’m crying

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
And be can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Lets don’t let a good thing die

When honey, you know
I’ve never lied to you
Mmm yeah, yeah

  1. That guy’s a real piece of work – he thinks he’s like Gandhi and Mandela? Such a swelled head, it’s difficult to imagine – that’s not hair, it’s his actual skull! If I had to wait out in the freezing cold for the bum, I’d be yelling, “hang ‘im high!” (figuratively speaking).

  2. You captured it all perfectly! And how I love that song, going back to the age of about 5…this post completely makes my week!

  3. Ah, the joys of the news and politicians. I’m mostly reading headlines about our new president and the progress being made on jobs, the economy, etc.

  4. I actually find someone who is so blatantly out of touch scary. I’m no doctor, but I have worked in a mental health field, and to use a clinical term (hope the jargon isn’t too highbrow), IMHO he is nutz.

The sooner you all can get rid of him, the better.

  5. ditto to marym- this post captures the madness! we in other parts of the country have been fascinated by the ongoing bizarreness of each subsequent tv appearance! it all reminds me so much of my home state of louisiana… he seems like he would be quite at home amongst bayou politics ;)

  6. HAHAHA that is me in the pile up there ;) That hat is WARM!! It is so cold outside today I also have on a polar fleece headband.

That was at about 2pm this afternoon. After he addressed the State Senate down in Springfield, he took one last flight back to Chicago on the State’s jet.

He spoke with us there right after that picture and told us he was going to change and come back outside for a jog. Totally unconcerned.

I thought it would be a great idea if we all made a pile of snowballs and had a good fun blast when he came out the door but we just laughed instead!

The Guv: all gone! Unanimous vote 58 to 0 to convict.

    Cue the Jailhouse Rock…

  7. I’ve been lurking for way to long without commenting. I so love your blog. I guess we need to make a felted Blago hair heads for Halloween!

  8. felted hair halloween costume? that’s great.

i was looking at the chicago tribune website and saw you with your lovely zebra hat on zooming right at his hair. i’m glad he’s finally been impeached, and hopefully you don’t have to cover him anymore.

  9. I wouldn’t bet on Bonne Marie NOT covering Blago any more. Fortunately, she’ll be doing it from the (relative) comfort of the lobby of the Federal Courthouse.

  10. I’m sorry that you had to stand out in the cold so long for “cuckoo”…. LOL I’m just relieved that he’s finally out and that the legislature had the foresight to ban him from any public office in the future too.

  11. Oh Blago! So happy to say good-bye to him, although I must admit I’d still love to live in Ravenswood Manor. What a gorgeous neighborhood.

  12. I find him oddly amusing and attractive. He’d be fun as an entertainer but I wouldn’t want him as my governor! Good old Mitch Daniels is more my style.
