Funny you should mention TRIMS, but I just took a field trip Monday to Fishman’s Fabrics (1101 S. Desplaines St) to scope and score some trims for another enchanted project: Tweedy Bird…

After finishing the knitting and most of the hem and button bands on the Bird, I realized a Sea of Tweed was a eyeful of BLAH! This stuff can be DULL as DUST! No wonder the ForeFather/Mother Designers of Old called upon the Braid Goddesses to part with some of their ornamental locks!

So the ForeF/Ms edged their creations with TRIM! Velvet Ribbon, Braided Cord, Fringe, Beads, SOMETHING to take this out of the mediocrity of vision and pop it to ya…

Here is what I came home with…

    If so, my vote is for #1 – awesome and just different enough to be *very* interesting.

    If not – well, #1 is still my favorite!

  3. OMG! The trims are so cool! I won’t admit to how much time I just spent on the Cheap Trims site, looking at frou frou like the Hula Dancer jacquard ribbons. I’ll be dragging my plain old WIP, the Interlocking Rings top, to KIP tonight.

  7. SNAP TAPE!! SNAP TAPE!! I love the way it looks, plus when people ask you what trim you used, you can smile and say “Just guess!”

  10. How fun! I like the shiny corded crowns, but am also a fan of #1. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  11. No 2 (snap tape?) is my fav, second fav is No 1.

    Also, a quick comment about your right hand column “vulgar” article (the one with vienna sausages all dolled up! :-) Do a search on ‘bento box’ and you’ll find why these are so important! You will find web sites, articles, etc. all related to the age old tradition of Japanese ‘bento boxes’ – lunches prepared by the woman of the home for their children & husbands. Mens careers, childrens status when starting school, can all hinge on what everyone in the board room/cafeteria see when they open their ‘bento box’. Your status as wife/mother amoung other wives/mothers hinges on how well you prepare the bento, how much time you spend preparing the bento, the quality of food in the bento, and of course, how appealing and decorative the bento is. YIKES!

    Amazing though that they actually have cutters to cut sausages into shapes – I guess to save those poor mothers some time in the morning.

  15. It’s a day late…but I like #1. It jumped out at me. Couldn’t appreciate 3 or 4 on screen. 2 is also you considering some of your tech talk. And if you’re going to call it tweedy bird don’t you need some canary yellow?
