Just for today, one sock qualifies
for a special one time only FO dance!
Technically, a pair is needed, but this is SPECIAL because it indicates I’ve gotten back on the SOCK BUS!
Even though I’ve been pretty good at cleaning out the workbasket, there are still a couple of lonely socks waiting to be finished.
This one is now ready for its MATE!

I’ve been working on finishing this for a couple of days – its my stop gap knitting when I’m stuck somewhere waiting for work direction or between shows. Yesterday, I SCARED the reporter I was working with by whipping off one boot and tracing my foot…
I’d forgotten my sock pattern and needed to know how long to make the sock! Seeing me measuring the trace did not relieve the stressful situation I caused but only added to the mystique!
Later, I took the little Hemp/Wool sockie to KIP and finished knitting it there. This yarn is so delightful, it was much petted and SMELLED! YES – for the first time ever I participated in a MASS SIP (Smell in Public)…
I’d only done this in the privacy of my own home before But I was emboldened by all the TESTIFYIN’ done over at Wendy’s on Wednesday in the Yarn Sniffin’ Comments, and, damn, this was FINE! Corinne started it but I couldn’t resist –
But I digress… I got all the way to the end of my toe shaping on said sock and started to Kitchener it together but ALAS! I lost my Will To Kitchener! I could not, for the life of me remember how to do it! MARY to the rescue! She pulled out a copy of Interweave Knits and VOILA! In the back section is a handy dandy tech section and there it was – thanks Mary! Love you guys!!!
I actually sniff yarn when I’m shopping. I’m sure it looks really bizarre! I sometimes don’t realize I’ve done it. But yesterday, at Arcadia, the sniffing was done in the open, and passed around like some illicit, you know! Lorna’s Laces is the best. Thank you for inspiring me to go back to my socks–I have a few singles pining for a mate.

Kitchener is one of those things no one every seems to remember, isn’t it?? Your sock is beautiful – just be glad every one was smelling it before it was worn! ;) You’ve inspired me to finish the mate for my lonely sock.
I laughed when I read you shocked the reporter. I understand completely the imperative in whipping off that boot and measuring the foot. That little detail was blocking you from moving ahead, and conventional office behavior be damned.
I happen to be a print reporter, and most recently a TV counterpart and I were parked in the waiting area of a school office and I whipped out my knitting of the moment. She was surprised!
I am still remembered by some labor negotiators in my area for the knitting I used to do when I was short-posting bargaining talks into the wee hours. And this was (ahem) at least a couple of decades ago.
I always have my knitting with me for phone work onat the office; when I’m on hold and when I absolutely cannot cut off the person who is blathering in my ear with useless or self-serving information. Knit on!

I made one sock, my first, but did not like the shapelessness of it. Yours looks very “shapely”. What pattern do you use?
Hee hee! A new phrase for me to use: SIP, or Smell in Public! The other day when I went to the yarn shop my fellow shop patrons looked at me like I was whack as I picked up a hank of homespun and took in a few hearty whiffs of it. [Don’t mind me ladies, I’m just a-sniffin’ the yarn…]

This is the latest knitter-oddity to come out in the open: sniffing yarn. I remember when my then-new employee Betty was just getting into knitting, her first Elann order arrived, and I was all antsy because she hadn’t ripped it open immediately to smell it! Now she gets it though.

We were thinking alike this week. I just finished a sock that has been sitting in my drawer for four months. The stupid thing is that its mate was already completed and all that was left was 30 minutes’ worth of knitting on the toe. My poor son waited all summer for something that I could have finished on my commute to work one morning!

I hate to admit this, but I have been long time SIPer…usually though with books. I like how books smell, although some do smell better than others. Recently only started sniffing yarn when at the home of my pal MasonDixon Kay she asked me to smell some yarn in her stash because she though it smelled of men’s cologne!! It did smell of men’s cologne, the kind my Uncle Cesar wears. We now call it the Uncle Cesar Yarn. Overshare! Overshare!
