New Threads Wednesday
***************************************

While it snowed snowed snowed this weekend,
I finished finished finished!

Just in time for Round Two of the January BlizWorks, I can get down to business in my new cardi worn with my black down vest. It actually hasn’t been too cold here – anything around 30 is my friend…

I am on a fringed collar binge – I couldn’t resist straight fringes on the cabled collar.

Here’s a CU of the pattern stitches – my favorite was the traveling ZigZag – no wagering if this MIGHT end up on another cardi :)

What Would I do Differently? I would probably add a little more shaping at the waist – I tried to do this with wide ribbing but given the STIFF nature of this yarn, it needed a little more oomph. (Makes great fringe though.)

This was the hardest color/texture to photograph – can’t wait for some great NATURAL light to take a REAL picture of this. I’ll probably be waiting until SUMMER and sweatin’ it to get it…

  1. Have you washed this yet? I ask because I just wet blocked my new Rogue out of this same yarn and it had quite a growth spurt in the width-wise direction. And it isn’t stiff anymore either.

  2. Wow! Gorgeous! I wouldn’t have thought a fringe collar would be good, but the combo cable, fringe collar really brings it all together.

  3. Wow – it’s so beautiful! I love the fringe on the collar – what a great accent!

Your work is always so inspiring. Thank you!

  4. Wow! It looks gorgeous Bonne Marie. I’m crossing my fingers that you’ll get some good light for photos. And you better wear it to KIP next week so that we can all see it up close.

  5. Absolutely stunning, Bonne Marie. The fringe collar is just great, love it. Great job, I bet you will look fabulous in this!!

  6. Wow, that is one beee-you-tiful cardi! Looks very professional and error free. I’ll be eager to read more about its progress and see more photos!

  7. Too bad you have to cover up all this fabulousness with a down vest. Dang. But what a collar!!!

  8. OOOooo!!! Very snazzy! Love the eggplanty color (at least, it appear eggplanty on my laptop monitor!). Glad to know you weren’t out tromping around in the blizzard and getting frostbite.

  9. Ehem… Please say you are going to publish that masterpiece! I usually steer away from cables, but that one could convert me!

  10. Blush! :)

Thank you so much for all your kindness!!! This sweater could end up as a pattern at some point – not soon though…

I’m in training on my *day job* learning Final Cut Pro video editing and my head is swimming…

WHOOT! Sure is fun though – love new software…

  11. That is one GORGEOUS sweater. The fringed collar reminds me of St. Brigid (fringed on the bottom). But undoubtedly yours is a more flattering length. Now show us a photo of you *wearing* this beauty. Final Cut Pro….my dad loves that software but there is definitely a learning curve. Have fun!

  12. WOW, another beautiful project! I do believe there is a lot more ruling you than just the stars, oh wise one! Your talents are so inspiring!

  13. Shazam is gorgeous. What a ride. I truly enjoyed your shazam journey through your notebook. Will this pattern be for sale?

  14. Girl, you really knocked it out!!
I’m looking at cardigans as the new jacket for spring. After a certain age, you just can’t do denim anymore. Try dropping the needles a size or two for the waist shaping (I make a swatch and experiment to get the right needle size). You can get the shaping without a noticeable difference, since it’s only an 1 to 1-1/2 inches or so.

  15. Whoops, I almost forgot.
If you really want to get jiggy with the shaping on a complex cable, place the shaping area only, on a smaller dp needle and knit, since shaping usually takes place on the sides. That should do it.
    You have magic hands.
