Looking for the perfect project to knit while talking on the phone? Look no further than a COWL!
Back on the needles is the luscious Baby Alpaca Grande – this color (1830) needs to be around my neck ASAP. I ripped out the other scarf I was attempting with this because suddenly (!) this version just made sense. The alpaca is so soft and drapey, it was beggin’ to go huggin’ on around my face. NICE!
I was chatting it up last night on the phone and just went round and round and round on this cowl and am about 2/3rds done…
GAUGE: 3.5sts/4.5rows per inch. Using #10.5 needles, cast-on 80 stitches. Join. Purl one round. Knit one round. Purl one round. K in rounds until piece measures 8″. Purl one round. Knit one round. Purl one round. Bind-off all sts.
ooooooooh! me likes! and yes, the color is fab.
Great minds think alike. I just did a similar one with some texture (alternating squares of seed stitch and stockinette like a little texture checkerboard) out of beautiful off-while Cape Cod cashmere on size 8’s. Somewhere between scrumtious and divine.
Ok, now I need to make one – quick – how much yarn do I need? I’m leaving to run errands in an hour or so. I need a warm neck!
I will be making one of these babies tonight! Thank you for sharing!
Mmmmm, cowly. I cannot get enough of them!
Tangent – you have got some great statues and other vertical items with which to display your knitting objects – I’m impressed with your artistic display style as well.

I made four of these as Christmas presents in Paton’s Classic wool, my favourite soft, cheap merino. Four different colours for four different people, all lovely. Thank you so much for this pattern.
Thanks so much for this pattern!! It works up soooo fast. I made one for my mom, who hates to wear a scarf but needs to cover her mouth due to asthma. She loves it, and her coughing has since ceased when she steps into the cold air. You’re a real life saver Bonne Marie!!
Hmmm – I’m not quite done with mine with this yarn but I’m *guesstimating* 160 yds…
Wendy – your CASHMERE sounds YUMMY!
I like these so much I practically live in them…
Really dumb question – do you wear these around your neck only or also pull them up over the head like a hood?
DUDE! There are NO dumb questions :)
This cowl will reach over the ears only – to get it to fit up over your head at the same time you need to make it longer…
What a wonderful idea. I have some baby alpaca just wasting away, forgotten in my stash in a soft pretty green. This will be perfect – just what I was looking for. Thank you for the pattern.
AHhhhh! I used your cowl pattern to knit my mom a cowl using my handspun yarn and she loved it! Such a great way to use up a little bit of nice yarn.
