In a Move that could only be topped by a springtime tornado or two, the Little Bad Muse has started Spring Cleaning! A legandary FIVE loads of laundry were done over a two hour span of excrutiatingly boring Moday Night Sitcom TV and that only whet her whistle.
ON to the closets! DIG through the Sweater Armoire! FIND the scoundrels that need to be cleaned before their Summer Hibernation!
SCREECH! This is a cool thing – the yummiest deep indigo color – but the sight of it makes the Little Bad Muse hem and haw and before you know it, she’s borrowing a phrase and SHOUTING in my ear: “Dumbass”….
That’s right – it’s too big and looks wonky! This poor creation is the end result (and becoming my personal MO) of NOT reading the pattern. Just knit the thing, make a few critical changes and carry-on as a card carrying member of the Dumas Family, who in legendary fashion, set the standard for blissful ignorance!
End Result? Floppinzeeze in ze shoulder, droopin’ in the sleeves, and an accidental waistline that would do Mme. Josephine proud…

Maybe I am the dumbass, but I think the sweater is rather smashing. Well, maybe it could be a touch more fitted, but it’s smashing nonetheless.
Yeah, I thought this was a pretty spiffy sweater, too! But sometimes pictures don’t tell the whole story, I guess. Good luck remodeling it into something you’ll really love.
The Picture: It Lies…
The main problem with this is that I did the neckband wrong – it is knitted in with the body of the sweater. I re-wrote the sleeve tops and shoulders and forgot to account for the width of the neckband :)
This made it too big across and when I’d wear it, it was falling off my shoulders…
I hate knitting patterns that don’t show a schematic!! I don’t know if this one did or not, but i can’t be bothered with something that doesn’t translate into geometry – its the only way i can really tell how the thing is going to actually work on me. Pictures do lie and half the lie is that none of the models look like me. My biggest challenge are the vintage patterns i love so much – no schematics there! so sometimes i try to draw one up based on the instructions.
oh yes, photos on my blog lie – my knits look much better than they do in real life. I’m always amazed at the energy you have for fixing your knits. When I look at my knitting gone bad, I just feel so tired of it and want to move on to something new, that hopefully isn’t going to go bad. Looking forward to see you weave your fixing magic on this one! Just love these transformations.
Everytime I looked at this sweater, I felt BAD! I loved the yarn. I loved the design. I hated the fit…
I felt silly for wasting all that $$$ on materials with nothing to show for it! BIG motivator.
The actual structure of the sweater made it pretty easy to rip out and try again. I’ve got Nothin’ to Lose…
