Red Scarf Project November 5, 2009

Every once in awhile there comes along a thing you just gotta do.

For many of us, that Gotta has wonderfully become an annual event!

redscarfProject I first learned about the Orphan Foundation of America’s
Red Scarf Project a few years ago and it is still going strong.

The fabulous Norma continues to go forth with the call over here

Basically, the Red Scarf Project calls for knitters to make Red Scarves (!) using DK wool (or lighter for ease in shipping) that the organization then packages with other gifties (cards of encouragement and gift cards for things college students might need or like — school supplies, fast food, coffee chains, etc) to send to 1st year College Students without regular family support.

BUT, if you’re not able to knit anything, you CAN DONATE some much needed funds to the Project to go for shipping and those other included goodies.

And for reaching into your pocket and spreading a little love, you get the chance for some goodies of your own: 1 chance to win fabulous prizes for each $5 donated, with prizes being distributed in surprise drawings over at Norma’s. After you donate, notify her at redscarffund@gmail.com of your amount so you can win-win-win.

Here’s a great chance to participate in a little pay it forward —

AND because we in the Land of Knitterlies love to sweeten the pot, Chic Knits has donated a couple of cool gifties of our own!

A skein (wound up!) of Malabrigo Worsted in the VAA colourway
and one printed pattern of Chic Knits Cassidy’s Cap!

I remember that first year at school being a real BEAR and the letters and packages from Home always warmed and lifted me up.

This is a wonderful way to Lift UP another!

The Project goes until December 15th — thanks so very much :)
