Without even trying, I’ve entered the Spring Zone. This time of year for me means lovely skies, beautiful bulb flowers, and sneezing my head off. Ye old Allergies have me hittin’ a wall this week – a little lazy. A little relaxed. Actually kind of yummy.
I’ve been enjoying the slower progress of my Cotton Ribby! This is my #66 BusMAte KnitAlong project and is growing as surely green and long as those flowers poking out of the dirt in my front yard.
You can see in the picture, I’ve used the larger rib repeats for the entire sleeve. The sleeve increases are then worked into the sides as Stockinette St. This matches the front, which has the same effect on the middle section. I basically dropped the side ribbing on both pieces.
This makes a more relaxed ribbed sleeve! I am really enjoying the cotton yarn too – woolies be GONE – your time is D-O-N-E. I see a Samoa Scoop in my future (hmm, dark brown?) – it appears that the Cotton Ease yarn is discontinued and this would be an excellent substitute for that pattern too. Can you believe I actually FINISHED all of my wool projects this year – there is not a single woolie friend hiding in the Marination Chamber ready to pop-out on me next fall like a little fiend. How the heck did this happen – WOOT!

Oh, I like that sleeve action ~ wish I’d thought of it. The increases on my second sleeve are much neater than the first, but since it’s not the most visible part of the sweater, I let it slide, leaving it there to remind me what I learned in the process. Ordering my zipper, so expect a gallery shot soon!
Really Cotton-Ease is discontinued? Well, I guess we can only hope that they’ll replace the line with something updated and upgraded, especially in terms of the palette. Cotton-Ease certainly seems to have been abandoned in terms of updated color for the past few years.
my goodness, but aren’t you the wickedest enabler!! I was at SuperCrafty, I had 15 balls of Samoa in my cart! Before I even knew what had happened… Egads!!
I mean, I just blew a fortune at MDS$W… I clicked CANCEL and backed away from the keyboard slowly. Hopefully someone SOMEwhere will have a good and affordable cotton blend when I am ready for one. :)
hi bonne marie. your cotton ribby looks great! i too will resist buying from supercrafty. have you tried any of your local michaels, hobby lobby, joann’s or hancock fabrics? can you tell i’ve been to them all? i’ve had some luck getting enough yarn for 3 projects so far. heehee!
I have some Cotton-Ease set aside for a cotton Ribby myself. I couldn’t believe it when I heard it was discontinued. It is the only yarn by Lion Brand I even use. I have yet to find a cotton blend I like better.
Still finishing up my wool Ribby, but it’s been so flipping cold here, I’ll probably be able to wear it all summer long!

When we go out shopping together, she can spend my money faster than I can pull it out of my pocket. Then as we’re putting stuff in the car, I ALWAYS NOTICE she has about one tenth of the loot I walk away with… :)
How does the Samoa knit up at 19sts? I noticed that the recommended gauge was 13st/4inch. By the way, the green color is beautiful.
Hi Kelly – you must be thinking of Goa, which is a bulky cotton blend from GGH. Samoa knits up 18-19 sts per 4 inch.
