This happened to me for the first time recently when pulling off a row of stitches. The needles had certainly gotten their share of use but it was surprising to have the end pop off with no warning. I had no qualms about trashing the needle.
I tell you what, those Crystal Palace needles stink. They’re always coming apart. I don’t even recommend them to customers anymore.
I had that happen with a pair of Crystal Palace needles too. Thank God for lifelines.
O……M……G……I would probably have a huge tantrum on the spot. I stopped using crystal palace needles a few years back because of the crappy joins, only to start using them again recently because I needed sharper tips for a project (Can’t anyone make the perfect needle??!!!!) Anyway, I am sure the intrepid Bonne Marie whipped out the super glue!
Add me to the list–I’ve had this happen, too. I brought out the superglue and haven’t had a problem since. That said, I will not purchase another pair of them ever again.
Crystal Palace recently tried a new faster-drying glue. There’s a bad batch out there. The glue isn’t holding. If those needles were bought in the past few months, they may be from the bad batch. Most of them were labeled as faulty and advised the knitter to use super glue to reattach them.
If it were me, those needles would have been trashed instantly. But I’m positive that you have more patience than I, and that you fixed them….
I think I would return them!
I can’t tell from the photo- but if those are Addi Naturas, you can just exchange them. Addi has a lifetime guarentee in their needles. And a rant aside, those smaller size naturas SUCK, they break at the join the moment you put the least bit of pressure on them. At least you can super glue the Crystal palace needles when the join comes unglued.
Those Crystal Palace needles are hell for that. I’ve had to glue a couple pairs of them. They work fine after their gluing, so I don’t think you’ll have too much of a problem with it.
If they’re Crystal Palace you should return them – they had a huge run of faulty needles over the last year. You couldn’t pay me to use their circs. For wooden circs I go Plymouth all the way – they even come in nice little compact cases.
Return them and purchase Addie Turbo’s.
Glue them back together?
Yeah, I had a pair of CP circs part company at one end but I used some nice epoxy to put ’em back together again. It’s annoying, yes, and I swore ferociously when it happened, but CP needles have got much better points than the other bamboo circs out there, so I put up with their little quirks.
your fingers must have been flying! where’s the option to replace. in the meantime, pull out the superglue and nail file.
I suspect the fearless Bonn Marie glued them back together, but my impatient (?childish) self would hae trashed them immediately, then wrote a cranky letter of complaint to CP. Then I would have bought some Addis and had a glass of wine.
Self-indulgent? Maybe a little.
Been there – done that. CP – I glued and kept on knitting.
Though I am not fond of bamboo needles, I have been using them on my lace knitting. I only use the Addi naturas, but if I were you, I would take a picture of them, send it to CP and then glue it back together & use until my NEW pair arrived from the company!!!
