New is Good March 9, 2010

As a geek, I have to admit it is pretty hard to blow me away these days. We are already living in one of the most amazing eras in history, where technology meets form and function in a way that just keeps getting better and better. What more could really be uniquely exciting?

Like many in the 21st, I am wholeheartedly dedicated to multi-tasking. Until that villa on Lake Cuomo appears and I can be One of the Ladies Who Lunch, my days will be filled with commitments and events that require a lot of planning and attention to all come out well.

it-1-P1000754What’s really funny is the more you do, the more you want to do.

That has to be some kind of ludicrous adjunct to the ideas of “If you want something done, ask a busy person” and/or “An idle mind is the Devil’s Playground.” Hee.

For most people spinning in the fast lane like this, you most likely have a Smart Phone or like me, an iTouch, because we are enthralled by being efficient, by the quest for the ultimate in time management.

I hate waiting in traffic jams; I see my life pass before my eyes in a doctor’s office as the clock ticks and ticks and ticks (average wait in Chicago: add 45 min to your basic appointment time).

But this weekend something happened to change all that:

This weekend I discovered a couple of things that made me go AHHHH!

I found that Amazon was offering a Kindle version app for the iPhone that also works on the iTouch. (The app is free. Squeee!)

So off I went and then I found even more happiness…

Our friend from the early days of blogging circa 2002, Rachael Herron, (Yarn-a-Go-Go) has published her first novel: How to Knit a Love Song! Browsing the new books, there she was in all her glory! Congratulations Rachel for a great read — it combines a modern romance with the love of knitting in a fresh and entertaining read. Bonus: Rachael includes a cool pattern for a gansey in the book as well!

And I can read this on my kindled-itouch whenever and wherever I want!

How very cool it that!?

Just when I thought I couldn’t be bowled over again…

  1. Amazon knows how to suck us in, don’t they? The pushers always give you the first one for free. Leaving to get my fix…

  2. I bought the Kindle for an overseas trip so I wouldn’t have to pack books for the long flights….well, now I have purchased more new books in 10 months than in the last 5 years! I have almost completely given up haunting the used book stores. Ebooks are really convenient. You will love it. (My eyes would be too worn out reading on the small itouch so I am happier with the Kindle),
    NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!

  3. Can you say enabler?? :) I’ve never been that interested in a Kindle, because for on-the-fly reading I’ve gotten hooked on audiobooks, otherwise I go for “real” books. But now this……an app for my iphone? I’m of to check it out….

  4. You made me know your friend, her book, and I just ordered it! Thanks!!
…but you didn’t convinced me for the electronic way of reading the books Sorry!!

  5. Search the Kindle store for free books and you will really get excited. My Kindle is wonderful for traveling.

  6. I’ve been looking forward to her book, but I didn’t even think to look for it as an ebook. I’ve just been waiting to go to the bookstore!
