I gotta testify if you’re extra fly
Kanye West 2006

And Ms. Bliss – YOU are the Flyest of them all.

I became a true believer stitch-by-stitch, wedgie row-by-row while knitting this *shawl* [that will become a collar]. Flaming enthusiasm was doused by fickle faithlessness. I burnt hot; I burnt cold. It took much longer than I planned. It almost spent time under the couch in a timeout. But the lust for somethinng NEW threw me back in the game. I’m still not sure I get it – but I don’t have to – the loveliness, the symmetry, is quite enjoyable all the same.

Spurring me on were the Grammys. In-between numbers [with occasional johnnyjumpup dancing] I wacked out the last two pattern repeats ending almost-in-time with the spirited duet of Jamie Fox and Kanye West on”Golddigger”. I especially found the Drum Corps stuff amusing and wonderful being a big fan of D&B. My day job lands me at a lot of parade shoots and I’ve been spotted in the wild shaking the groove thing in public More Than Once to any especially spirited high school marching band…

And people, I must say, your astute Poll voting was RIGHT ON! Green Day took the award for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. But Uhhuh. Hello O.C.!:

“And the polka king, Jimmy Sturr, claimed his 15th Grammy, this time for “Shake, Rattle and Polka!” (Rounder). The victory pulled him into a tie for Grammys won with the decidedly better-known Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman.”

  1. You have got to love the symmetry. It makes this sweater a beautiful thing all by it’s lonesome.

    Still…love the color, too!

  2. I have decided the best way to watch an awards show is to TiVo it for at least an hour, watch the music, who wins the awards, then fast-foward through all commercials and acceptance speeches.

Or is that my ADD talking?

  3. That was a great performance, though I didn’t really see the need for the dancers’ gold hot pants – but what do I know?

I am totally in awe of the collar and cannot wait to see the transformation as it gets connected to the sweater.

  4. “A timeout under the couch.” Love that, Miss B.

I bet you’d rock as the drum major, with the awesome baton and high-stepping strut!

  5. That Kanye – when those gold lame bikini dancers came out, I actually thought they were for another act and then I got it – OH – they’re the Golddiggers. Yikes – I guess they needed to dig up some mo’ money to buy some real pants. There was some nuclear strength taping on those outfits! Miss Jackson might want to give Grammy Wardrobe a call..

  6. Where did the pattern for the shawl with the wedges come from? I want to knit one – it is gorgeous!

  7. Jimmy Sturrrrrrrrr, my mannnnnnnnn. He and Yo-Yo and Itzhak need to do an album together.

And omigarsh, the marching band Kanye/Jamie thing was fantastic. That song is totally addicting.

  8. Oh my God – D&B! I grew up with the SC Vanguard, although I never marched with them. My son is a drummer and I’m trying to get him interested – he’s only 12, though. Thanks for the link!
