I am hypmoetized…
NOW it’s a sock! I’ve been gauging the progress of this knitting on the bus by what kind of questions I’m getting from my fellow riders…
I will be knitting away on this (and it SHOULD be done by now but…) and look up and see someone staring at me with a quizzical expression, forehead creased or mouth open.
It is too narrow to be a scarf. It is probably too off-the-color-charts to be a baby garment (why we are SO loyal to Famile Pastele – I do not understand – pourquoi?).
But now as I’m whipping around the rounds, it’s taken a turn.
A HEEL is born.
And even though I have all good intentions to learn some new tricks, this is the heel I love – slipped stitch flap, plain old gusset, groovy little curve…
Here’s where I learned the drill >>> Terry <<<<< :) you started this...
Right there with ya babe! Looks great!
You know what I hate about knitting socks in public? People think they are so effing funny to say, “Well you KNOW you can just buy a pair of socks for like $2.99 at Target?” Haaa haaa! So funny!
NOT.
I tell them that the socks they buy at Target are pieces of crap that will get holes in them within a few times of wearing them. My beautiful socks look a hell of a lot cooler and will ast much longer than those cheap-ass ones.
Wow. Who knew I had such issues with this?
Yep, I’m a flapper, too!
Hmmm, maybe that cute rider from a few weeks ago will turn up again and ask about the socks….:)
Lovin’ it!
I know what you mean about learning new tricks. I’ve just caught on to short row heels and I’m smitten! I’m using Priscilla Gibson-Roberts Dream Socks pattern. Just finished sock #1 last night.
I havent learned any other way at this stage… but my Sockapaltwoza socks had an eye of the partridge heel and me likey. Maybe one day I will learny too :)
But I love the colour of that yarn!
Perhaps a sassy comeback for that *issue* exists – I need it too – usually I just grin really big and nod my head. Uh Huh.
In fact, that is the way I respond to almost all Urban Funk-in-the-Face: the Bonne Marie Grinning Bobblehead.
UpDOwnUPdowNUP.
Sometimes people move away; other times they smile back.
The Beautiful Stranger from a few weeks ago has never returned! I think he might’ve been the Recreation Director on a Cruise ship and was in the neighborhood for a pre-float check-up – the #66 route goes right by NWHospital and its millions of clinics.
Yumminess.
You know, despite plenty of knitting in public, I’ve never gotten any questions, or even much staring. No one ever seems to notice.
I love sock knitting in public. People always look at you like you just made electricity jump from your finger tips!
Oohs and Aahs like you walked on water! What is that all about?
I like the heel flap method too. It makes much more sense to me to knit toe-up, but I never like the heels on those. I love the math of top-down socks, with the heel flap & turning the heel and picking up stitches for the gusset.
Kind of like what you were saying about shortrowing that collar last week – looking forward to getting to the heel & gusset keeps me interested the boring tube part of sock knitting.
How funny, Bonne Marie. That’s where I learned to make socks too. Back when I first started knitting and used to spend hours surfing the web looking for knitting sites.
I found her instructions and pictures to be the perfect way to dive into something new and foreign. I was able to turn the heel without a hitch, and for a long time at the knitting shop I was the only one who never had to go to the Vogue Knitting Book to remember how to do the kitchener stitch. I just follow my mantra: Purl on, purl off; knit on, knit off.
I may vary the sock pattern, but I rarely vary the technique.
Someday, I *will* knit a pair of socks. Oh yes I will!
I miss reading you– for some reason, your posts show up all wonky in my Bloglines! I need to remember to just stop by!
That is some gorgeous sock yarn!!!
I love those little bits of lime in there. They made the whole colorway sing! It’s lovely
Thos are beautiful! Still the Twinkletoes yarn, right?
I was having a mild-mannered debate (really just a chat) with a gal in my local knitgroup. She is almost certain that “Twinkletoes” is the brand name of some big company’s sock yarn, but the only yarn like this I’ve been able to find called Twinkletoes is dyed by the lady at Over the Rainbow Yarns, on EBay. Is this what you’ve got, too? I’m always curious about yarn brands and sources. :) I just bought a skein of superwash merino sock yarn from the aforementioned store (thanks to your earlier post about these socks, actually) and it’s gorgeous stuff.
Oh, and I’m not affiliated or anything, I swear. :)
YES! This Twinkletoes was acquired from Maryann on eBay.
Love the Gorgeous colors; yummy. Where can I get some of that and what is it anyway?
