I got my hair cut by a maniac…

and suddenly SCARVES seem like a great idea!
scarfyarn.jpg

Did you ever have a quickie with a completely unknown hair stylist because your old faithful wasn’t available?!

People, I am shorn as surely as a sheep – and with not as much skill! There is nothing like the moment the stylist twirls your chair and hands you the mirror and you realize: I AM NOT IN A MOVIE!

Or maybe, in my case, you should be in a movie – the New Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Oh – enough whining, please. All I need to soothe my soul is to get some yarn out and play with it.

This tidy little pile has been growing out of sale bins, etc. for over two years. I spoke with my Mom last night, making some Easter FamPlans, and she was all agiggle over FUNfur! That’s right – those crazy scarves have hit the Michigan hinterland in a big way and am I glad?!

G-L-A-D does not begin to convey my happiness in knowing I have a sure thing yarn gift idea for some of those special people in my life. As we all know, sometimes the recipiant reaction to a knitted gift is not what we expect. (Ever go over to someone’s house and see your painstakingly knitted intarsia child’s sweater being used for a dog bed?)

Just another of the millions of reasons to STEP AWAY FROM THE INTARSIA!

Grab that polyester fizz and give it whirl! I’m wearing mine over a Blue Jean Jacket and I bet you won’t even be looking at my HAIR!

  1. Oh, I feel your pain, and I know that “who the hell is THAT?!” feeling when you get to see what a mangled mess your hair has become. But you’ve got the best solution–and a gazillion stylin’ hats to boot!

  2. Sorry to hear about the hair scare. It’ll grow. (My daughter hates when I tell her that) And you could boss your polyester fizz around and whip up some extensions. It could be the latest knitting craze. :)

  3. My mother, who is a hairdresser with a huge client list, does that to my hair on a regular basis. Well, used to . Now I make sure to get a haircut before I go home.

I mean, everyone else she gives haircuts too come out looking reasonably normal and attractive, so I think she knwos what she’s doing. But she touches my hair, and its like she’s possessed by some maniac evil spirit.

Now, my hair being naturally curly and all, with weird flips and curl patterns is a challenge that many a hair dresser has failed at. But my own mother? It’s tragic.

(That reminds me, I need to make another hair appointment before my bangs grow down to my collarbone.)

  4. Yikes! Been in that same hairdresser’s chair, m’dear. You’ve got my total sympathy! Fizzy, fuzzy scarves; the perfect antidote! I made a pile of them for my mom — she loves them and calls them her “Sex and the City Scarves.”

  5. I wear glasses and have to remove them when I have my hair cut. It’s always scary to have to put them on at the end… Once the hair cut was so bad I started crying, the stylist asked why I hadn’t said anything while she was cutting so she could have stopped before it was irrepairable. I had to explain that I was as blind as a bat w/o the glasses…sad day
    But hey, happy yarn!

  6. I got my hair cut by a maniac and my DH said it was so short it required serious earrings. Scarves would have been cheaper. I live in northern Michigan and made 20 scarves for the family Christmas party. I allowed everyone to choose a scarf rather than trying to guess who might like what. I enjoy seeing them being worn and it was a great way to try out new yarns.

  7. Oh, yeah, been there…except it was a bad color job by a substitute. That was one of those “what was I thinking” moments. Maybe some spring Bucket hats would help!

  8. So sorry to hear about your hair cut.

Looking forward to seeing your new scarves – I love the fluffy stuff!

BTW I have to ask, the dog bed sweater has a hideous ring of truth to it, did that actually happen to you? Is the recipient still walking?!

  9. I too have had the horrible hair salon experience, and scarves are such fun to knit but when all’s said & done, I thought your hair looked tres chic when I saw you on the #66 yesterday.
    :-)

  10. Oooh… I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think. But I totally understand the PTSD of a bad haircut. The owner of a salon once turned my hair black and white (think Cruella deVille) while trying to give me blonde highlights. The worst part? I was there over 6 hours, and she still had the cajones to ask me to pay $115! I say put on your Bucket o’ Chic and dive head first into some serious knitting therapy!

  11. I’m sure it looks good! Maybe you just need to move through the adjustment period. Hey, maybe you can knit yourself a little fun fur wig!

  12. The horrors of bad hair! I’ll never forget the day some woman on a one-day release from the insane asylum took a pair of clippers and BUZZ CUT the back of my head. I feel your pain.

  13. Oh no! Here I am, going to get my hair cut tonight and I see your post. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come!

  14. See, this is why I sometimes go several years between haircuts. I think it’s been clinically proven that NOT thinking about your hair makes it grow faster, so get busy with that yarn (especially Squiggle, which knits a truly awesome fabric). And just imagine how much longer your hair will be by the time you’re done with all those scarves!
