If you live in the Midwest, I don’t have to tell you that it’s been raining here for days and days and days. The grey skies are a color sponge that remove the vitality of everyday objects and leave them subdued and low.

The Outside Life is now become the Inside Life; autumn is officially upon us, early and strong.

After I get over the grey, I realize how much I love this time of year. This is the time when the projects begin in earnest. This is the time new things are learned and wallowed in.

I’ve been wandering around the Photoshop landscape a lot lately. It is so amusing to see what it can do:

Here is a *sketch* for the CeCe I’m working on now – I wanted to see what it looked like in brown.

cece060912.jpg

Almost works ;p

The actual yarn I’m using is Calmer in *Coffeebean*.

the Fabulous Fluffa is also knitting this baby in the same yarn and she writes: “I think that Rowan should rename this color of Calmer “chocolate truffle” instead of “coffee bean”. YUM!

Believe me when I say, this woman knows her Chocolat! She introduced me to the glories of dark chocolate in Paris – I did not realize that you could get Chocolat Bars in percentages of Cocoa (more being better!) We started me out at about 40% and by the end of the week I was, hmm, at 72%? This color makes you want to D.I.V.E. right in!

Quote for today from a Chocolat Website: “Cocoa is a precious commodity; it should be treated with respect.”

BoogaJ has been kind enough to eat some chocolate
and write about it for us!

  1. Beautiful fall color! And the sun is finally out in Chicago; yay! That color would be perfect for the Chocolate Swap I just joined, but I would have a hard time parting with it. Fabu.

  2. Mais oui, chocolat! That was one of the best things I brought back with me from Amsterdam. One was 87% cocoa with bits of orange peel. Delish!

  3. I started a sweater in that color of calmer too! But it hasn’t gotten anywhere yet. As you well no, gray is a photographers favorite color. ;-) Although I could do without the rain and the almost BLACK skies. We’re getting your weather today it seems.

  4. I’m having a blast knitting this pattern. Your construction of it is genius, simply GENIUS.

P.S. Remember our snacks of chocolate bars and baguette? YUM. And the more dark chocolate the better. I mean, we all need the magnesium, right???

  5. CeCe looks great in chocolate! I really need to try that yarn out one of these days. We started with the rain here today. I hope we don’t have days and days of it too.

  6. Looks tasty! Sounds like you have the rain we had last weekend – hopefully it will be followed by the glorioous weather we’re having right now…

Endangered Species Chocolate’s Black Panther Bar is 85% cocoa. :)

  7. ah, my grocery store even has chocolate now by the %. But the Belgian chocolate one picks up in Paris; c’est Magnifique
CeCe is looking marvelous drenched in it.

  8. Oh, yeah, dark chocolate and red wine, I’m in heaven! Locally, I find Scharfenberger’s dark chocolat at 72% I think. You know Prevention Magazine touts that it keeps your arteries healthy as does red wine. That’s good enough for me.

  9. My co-worker and I do choclate samplings. We get various “proofs” and sample them all to determine what percentages we enjoy best. The highest percentage we’ve seen was 90%. It was like tar. My favourite is about 60%.

If I have a candy bar, I’ll eat it in one sitting. If I have dark chocolate, a few squares are all I need.

  10. I love that color…fabulous! And the sleeve length is perfect. Is it indcluded in the pattern – I suck at changes/additions/modifications.

  11. Chocolate-a beautiful thing. You’re all about the CeCe, aren’t you? I love that pattern, but my first shot at it didn’t turn out so great, although I blame the yarn. I plan on trying it again next spring, because I really love the top. Plus, right now I have so much lace going, my eyes are going crazy.

  12. Hey, hope you didn’t get flooded out.

Brown can look so beautiful but is hard for some of us to wear… but now that you call it “chocolate” I may have to give it another shot.

Please try Scharffen Berger 70%, if you haven’t already. YUM

  13. Look for Dagoba chocolates online or at your local purveyor of fine foods. They have several high-cocoa bars and some really interesting flavors as well. I like the one they call Xocolatl. I’m enough of a purist that I wouldn’t normally admit to eating flavored chocolates, but theirs are intruiguing.

Note that there’s an effective upper bound on percentage of cocoa solids: baking chocolate has so much cocoa, there’s no room for sugar. Not even avowed chocoholics like me can take much of that.

  14. mmm… dark chocolate. i used to be a milk-only person until i discovered the wonders of good dark chocolate. fabulous in taste and color!
have you tried vosges haut chocolat? delicious unusual flavors and right in your hometown!

  15. One thing I especially like about brow…woops…chocolate, is that unlike black, I think just about everyone can find a shade that makes them look fabulous. Some people are good with browns that have a little grey in them; others of us (ahem, like me), need a little bit of red or orange or gold in it. I’m going to have to put a brown knitted something on the list.

  16. Bonne Marie! How evil of you to link to Rococo. As I live in England I’ll now HAVE to go visit. You have no idea.

Have you discovered Max Brenner yet? http://www.maxbrenner.com/ I’m just thankful they don’t have those here yet but it makes a good excuse to visit New York, Singapore or Australia!

  17. I sit here looking at my bright lovely orange carrots and my mellow yellow banana on my desk and just think to myself…….harumph!

  18. Mmmm….chocolate…..
    Mmmm….coffeeeee….and chocolate…

Anyway, I’m doing CeCe–yikes! let me rephrase that–I’m knitting CeCe in Butterfly (Egyptian Cotton) in a wonderful deep kind of fuschia.
    Fun times!
I do have a question for you: whatever happened to the Ribbi Pulli? Are you going to be selling this pattern again? Please?
The Ribbi Cardi is cute, but I’m really not into having to sew in a zipper.
    Ever.

  19. Oh my god – all that chocolate is made me weak in the knees! Rococo! Brenner! Dagoba! Scharffen Berger! Vosges has the nerve to have a shop very near my studio! How dare they! How can I (resist). Never.

Thanks so much for the fabulous enabling!

[BTW – the Pullover pattern will be available in late October – it is going through the final stages of editing, sample making, layout, etc.

I’m very excited about this release – it is going to have some FUN options.]

  20. Gimme some Scharffen Berger, a bit of cabernet, a skein of sumptuous yarn (with needles), and an Ellis Peters mystery on the iPod, and I’ll be blissfully ignoring winter here in the Midwest…
CeCe is gorgeous in any color, Bonne Marie!

  21. I love chocolate. Anything chocolate in fact. And I just realized that Calmer is one of those yarns I’ve wanted to try but never have. It’s never been in any LYS that I’ve been to, so maybe I’ll look around online. Chocolate knitting, chocolate bar, chocolate everything! Sounds like a plan!

    Squeeeeeeeeee!
