Exactly.
Here we have the fabby back of my Mondo Cable Shell/VEST (!).
I swear I didn’t do this.
I swear I didn’t finagle the yarn stripes so they’d end on a GREEN series.
But hey. Why look a yarn horse in the mouth.
YES! It’s 2007 and I indeed intend to mangle and misuse as many metaphors as I can get my hands on.
This will look great under Red Hair, non?
After seeing the incredible Ribby Shell/Vest Corinne made out of Noro Kureyon #116 which she has graciously allowed me to reproduce here:
I decided to just LET the COLOR HAPPEN.
As I shaped the top of the vest, the stripe repeats became wider but still graduated in tone and scope. You can see this happen on Corinne’s vest too – the darkening of the skinnier parts means more dense striping.
I was tempted at one point to alternate skeins, but I must admit, this always seems Too Much Aggravation. I would rather the Yarn Muses who crafted these strands have their natural way. Rarely have I ripped because of pooling – a little bit just might make a cool shape –
I do like this idea though seen on scarves about town: one row of Noro, one row of a solid color. OR Alternate 2 different (3 different?!) colors of Noro…
The Front awaits…
MMMMM, I think this rates a definite “YUMMY!!!” That is just fantastic. Forget the two cardis I’ve got on the needles – I’m heading off to V-neck Vest-land.
I considered trying to match the top front of mine, and I had plenty of yarn to do it. Then I decided that the mismatch at the top would give the vest a little more of an edgy look. I think there’s enough of black in this colorway that it’s not terribly obvious.
That’s fabulous! I think red hair under that would be perrrrfect!
I love Noro!!! I generally let it do what it will and don’t stress – even when joining a new ball there is no matching the ends. I have, once or twice, matched the fronts on jackets; more because it was a store sample and the pattern picture was matched.
I see a Ribby Vest in my near future …
Great colors!
I love the colors of your shell/vest! I’m soooo tempted to drop everything and start one!
Red heads look so sultry in green. This vest is going to be fabulous. I love the idea of the shell being a vest. I have wanted to add a sweater vest or two to the ‘ol work wardrobe. Sheesh, quit tempting me. Wait until I get my Ribbi Cardi finished first!
That will look great with your hair! Those are colours I can never wear, unfortunately. Can’t wait to see the front.
Gorgeous! My absolute fabvorite Noro colorway. I have a Silk Garden hat in the same colors–say the word and it’s yours.
When do we get to see you wearing the New Year’s Eve top!?
Nice vest :)
Another fun use of Noro is for simple Fair Isle without a billion balls – K2 of colour A, K2 of colour B (or a second ball of colour A, starting at a different location in the colour repeat)… over a multiple of 4 if you want vertical sections of your horizontal stripes, or a mutiple of 4 +/-1 to get nifty diagonal lines of colour-changing Fair Isle goodness!
Great vest. I love the colors. Knit fast in 2007.
I like the way the striping worked out….it makes the vest more interesting.
mmmm… noro. there are so many wonderful ideas for that stripey goodness… the corrugated ribbing on indigirl’s knitty sweater.. and i love the scarf in “last minute knitted gifts” that is 2 skeins alternated every couple of rows.
your vest is looking lovely!
Gorgeous! I’m greeeeen with envy. Now I’m lusting after some Noro, too.
Hey there Bonne!
Happy New Year to you! And the vest looks phat!
The alternating formula for Noro you mention is more attractive for me, as I found the yarn a bit much, by itself.
