Right about now in the Big Windy something is happening that really makes me smile! :)
People all over the place are casting on sweaters. The temps are dropping; the wool, it wants you.
Every sweater we’ve ever seen has something in common with all the others: Sleeves.
And you’re gonna have to knit ’em to wear it. The Sweater. Yep.
I’ve been knititng sleeves in one permutation or another for several weeks now, (although I’m into the yoke part of my Derica sweater, whoo), and it’s been lots of fun exploring all the different types of sleeves there are.
Probably my current personal favorite also happens to be the one that strikes the most fear into the hearts of knitters everywhere. You can see it on the left – all of its scary gory self – the Set-In Sleeve…
But have no fear – this weekend we are taking this monster on the road and spreading the news.
We ain’t scared of no sleeve and neither should you be!
In fact, they are one of the defining moments in the evolution of clothes and something that is simply Incredible!
So, to celebrate their awesomeness, I’ve decided to demonstrate how it all comes together.
We’re going to explore the shape the style the form and function of this lovely invention…

I am working on my first ever set of sweater sleeves. I have the rest of my cardigan finished but I left the sleeves for last because the idea of knitting them scared me! So far, so good. I am knitting both sleeves at the same time because I can’t imagine having one sleeve all finished and then knitting yet another sleeve. Right now I am 3/4 of the way finished with both sleeves and I cannot wait until I am all done.
I just finished a pair of sleeves last night and cast on for the back of a sweater. :-)
This gives me hope for my future set in sleeves trial and errors. I wish I could be there on the 24th, but alas, I live in DC.
Wish I could come!!
